I'd recommend a new thread, as there were some other interesting properties, too.

Not a very savvy upgrade for a Plat... Are they as stingy as other SPG props in SIN in terms of suite upgrades?
Also lounge was mentioned -- do they serve decent free breakfast/evening appetizers to Plats?

SIN hotels do tend to be stingy.

So far, my best experience was at W among Sheraton, StR and W, when I got upgraded to a Marvelous suite.

StR is unpredictable, while Sheraton hardly upgrades.

OT but I've had good experiences at the StR, although I find it hard to understand why only the St Regis Suite and not the Carline Astor Suite are in the SNA and Plat upgrade pools. The two categories don't seem very different and contain suites of somewhat different sizes IIRC.

Just checked out of here yesterday for a short 1 night stay. Was upgraded to a sea view suite using 1 SNA, and it comes with Bulgari bathing amenities (the green version of the shower gel, shampoo etc not the transparent one).

The lounge was so-so during happy hour, it comes with a few kinds of assorted cheese, and all the food are cold dishes such as potato salad with a few thin slices of beef, seafood (fish, scallop and smoked salmon mixed with wasabi and some cream) salad and some grilled vegetable salad. There are also salamis and some small pieces of cakes. In addition, there are no fruits available.

As I booked via the opening renewal rate, the breakfast buffet at the restaurant is complimentary and I would rate it pretty much average as the spread isn't good compared to other hotels in the APAC region. The staff are trying to be friendly but are still not used to their roles, for instance, the girl at the counter guided us to our seat, pointed us to our seat which are 4 tables away and left without asking us for our choice of coffee or tea. The rest of the staff are too busy chatting with other guests about what their plans of the day are, playing with young children, etc and are not available until they finished their dialogue. So eventually, we had to get our coffee in a self-service fashion where we approach the staff stationed at the coffee machine and they will hand us the drinks on the spot. So while the staff are friendly, they probably will need some additional time and training to be efficient which is understandable since it is the soft opening phase after all

I stayed here a couple of weeks ago (it was the 8th day open for the hotel).

I had been upgraded to a Junior Suite using SNA, but was given a further upgrade beyond that to a large two-room corner suite. It was really nice and spacious (Room XX34). The room overlooked the pool and harbor on one side and buildings of downtown Singapore on the other.

I used the lounge in the afternoon to do some printing and went back in the evening. It was pretty good for happy hour- drinks- wine, beer and spirits- as well as a selection of mostly cold foods. There are a couple of elements there for heating things, but they were not used that night.

Unfortunately, I had a morning flight and did not get to the lounge for breakfast, so I cannot comment on that.

I did use the pool area for a few hours in the afternoon. The sun disappeared behind the buildings mid-afternoon. The water in the pool could have been a few degrees warmer. I ordered food by the pool, from the pool bar, and it was good.

The hotel is nice- the Lobby is on the 32 floor and has a great view of the harbor and the container port.

There are a bunch of restaurants in Asia Square, which look to be there mostly for the day-time business crowd. Not sure about night activities in the area, as I just stayed in the lounge.

I would go back and stay there again.

Is the new Westin participating in the Take Two (2x Double Pts) Promo which runs till 15 Dec)? I understand that the Hotel itself has a Double Pts opening promo. It will be great if I can combine these two promos

Tempted to book this one for a staycation as I have already tried the W.

The points just posted to me so I can verify that the double points is independent of the take two promo. Hence you get the 4 additional starpoints from both promotions.

You're referring to the F&B discount? Whole bill.

roverkt, thanks for the info, much appreciated!

Many nice museums en route too. I'd recommend this if you don't mind walking to explore a place cos while the walk isn't short one thing leads you to another.

SR would be at one end of Orchard Rd, which you wouldn't be interested in unless you want to shop at malls with brands you can find anywhere else in the world. Things won't exactly be cheap either due to the strong SGD, even after the VAT refund. It's a 10-min walk to Orchard MRT station. It's also close to a building infamously termed the seven floors of whores. For more decent fun, you'd be able to reach the Botanic Gardens plus Orchid Garden by foot. If you're a medical tourist there are two private hospitals nearby and several day clinics at the Paragon mall. The main part of Orchard Rd does get very, very crowded on weekends so if you enjoy rubbing sweaty arms with others try it.

Both are well located depending on what you plan to do there.

PS I got an email promo today offering double points at new properties and Westin is one of them.

That is indeed very tempting. In that case, I will probably stay there with my family next weekend to take advantage of this promo.

So, just to confirm for non-Elite member: US$1 = 2 (base) + 2 (Take Two promo) + 2 (double-pts promo for the Westin itself) = 6 pts?

It's not the whole bill in that (alcoholic) beverages are excluded, at least in many locations.

You're welcome. Two points to add:

1. I was wrong about the opening date of the Downtown line. It should've been Dec 22, but if you're planning on exploring by foot it shouldn't make any difference to your decision to choose the Westin. In any case the Marina Bay station is a five minute walk away.

2. While it's clear I'm not enamored by Orchard Rd you may want to pop down to have a look if it's your first time in SIN. The Christmas lightings can be not bad (though a bit strange for some cos it's still so warm).

Enjoy your stay here.

Yup! Just to add though, the double pts promo for the westin itself does not include additional charges you have to pay for f&b, internet, etc and hence just includes the room charges. On the other hand, the take two promo points includes the additional charges spent at the hotel.
