Personally I rather disappointed on the reply. The agent is putting the burden to the guest to know the benefits and in case the hotel does not give the benefit, the guest should contact SPG.

There is no effort (at least on the reply) that SPG mentioned that they will investigate and ensure the hotel and its staffs are properly trained and aware of the benefits that need to be the guest.

What happen if the guest is not aware about the benefit that he should entitle? The burden should be on the hotel not on the guest.
My apologies if you are disappointed in the reply. I would be glad to look into this further if you will send me the email string or PM me your SPG account number.

Best regards,

Snicker. Fish Spa in Chinatown.

Now, that's not to discount the fact the hotel employee should be aware of this benefit in the first place.
That's how I understood it too.

When I checked in at 8 am I was told there would be an extra charge. I said that I was Plat75 and had been approved through Your24 for early check in. No muss, no fuss.

I had an excellent stay, though no suite upgrade. One of the bloggers did a review praising this property. Lots of photos included.

*grumble*. And they told me on my revenue stay that the Harbor View Suite was not in the Plat upgrade pool, only the Sea View Suites :P

Ah well.. YMMV indeed

I'm disturbed that this property is still "having difficulties" understanding SPG elite published benefits regarding late checkouts. I stayed there about a year ago and remember having to insist on my own late checkout, although I don't remembere the details. I also remember a lounge discussion with two other guys who were Plats and left a day or two before me who were absolutely denied any late checkouts, despite having an argument with the hotel about it, although one guy was told that he could pay for the late checkout (as a Plat!).

One would hope that in a year, staff could learn about this basic aspect of the Starwood program.

When I checked in a week ago though I was asked if I wanted a 4pm checkout and answered yes.
Then asked when our flight was-after midnight.Told they were very busy day of checkout(SIN DO) so no later but told if we wanted we could stay in the exec lounge until we wished to depart.
So at least one agent is very au fait with SPG benefits.

Not many I don't think, and I'm not there anymore either. I'm now at the Fairmont. SIN is the only place I cheat on SPG and I'm sure glad I did as I'm enjoying my 2100 sq ft penthouse suite for almost half the price of the Westin.

MSPeconomist, this is precisely my point. The benefit should be offered by the hotel without us, the guest even requesting for it.

I am afraid now that I have to conclude that the hotel is intentionally try not to give the benefit as much as they can.

Because, I have told the check in staff that "based on my understanding that the 4pm checkout is guaranteed". Her reply is "no, it is not, it is subject to availability" and she is quite confidence when she answered that.

I even go to the extend telling her that "this is something new for me, because as far as I know, the 4pm checkout is guaranteed and I have no issue to get this in other places".

Base on this, I have to conclude this is a "deliberate act", as if she is not sure, she will probably say "she will check".

More evidence, when I requested to speak to the Assistant Front Office Manager, straight away he said he will look into it and say no issue for late check out.

@Starwood Lurker: this is why I am not so happy on the reply that I get. SPG should really do the check on why the hotel does not seem to understand the benefit needs to be extended to SPG elite. Even to the extend that it seems they tried not to extend this benefit if the guest is not insisted for it.

The benefit should be extended even the guest is not asking for. Not something that guest has to demand for it.

Everyone is welcome! This is my 4th year. Last year we did an amazing tour of the SQ training facilities including water evacuation.

Within a month the dates should be posted for next year.

I just assume 4PM checkout and never get into a conversation about it. I haven't stayed at this property of course.

Was offered this as SPG Gold at check in. No problems and very professional staff all round

Also the Lobby Lounge has a good (and reasonably priced) wine tasting menu. For SGD20nett you'd get 3 glasses x 200 ml of either red or white. Great value for Singapore and even better with the 25% SPG discount !
