I attempted to book using this promo for the Al Maha in July of next year. My reading of the Terms & Conditions is that you must BOOK before Feb 28, but the phone rep insisted it was for a STAY before Feb 28. Anyone have an interpretation or success booking during the "promo period" for a stay that's beyond the promo period or am I reading this wrong.
Best regards,

My apologies for any confusion, but to qualify for this offer, the stay must be both booked and consumed between September 1, 2016 and February 28, 2017.

July2013-Feb2014
July2014-Feb2015
Sept2015-Feb2016
Sept2016-Feb2017
So going by history, I'd expect word on the next promo period to break at the end of August.

What is the cancellation policy for an award booking under this rate? My understanding is that award bookings using Starpoints can usually be cancelled without penalty until a few days before check in date.
I was trying to book Al Maha in Feb 2017, and the phone agent told me that there is a no cancellation policy for this points booking. Is there anyone who knows whether this is indeed the case under this promotion, which is different from the usual practice?

Al Maha has a 30-day cancellation policy even for flexible rates, so any booking you make now for Feb 2017 will be non-refundable.
You can see this by looking at the rate conditions for a stay in mid-March.

Thanks! That's very helpful. I've asked a few separate SPG platinum phone agents and even they weren't able to provide an answer...

Apparently this promotion has been "extended" for another year (see http://viewfromthewing.boardingarea....e-night-awards), even though the webpage hasn't been updated.
I just called and confirmed it is still live -- I booked a night at Al Maha for late September of this year for 39,000 a night. The agents had no idea what the "Paradise is Closer" promotion was, but they were able to find the booking into their backend just fine.

EDIT: Realized past promos began July & Sept, so maybe it's not active yet for June?
Just tried to call and book Al Maha for next month. The agent of course wasn't aware of the promotion, and said he could only see 60k point redemptions (even though the base room is available). What did you ask/say when you called?

I specifically mentioned the Paradise is Closer promotion and told him there should be availability for 39,000 a night -- he had trouble finding it at first, but eventually found it.
Not sure if for some reason it's not available in June -- I only checked for September directly.
