Question What is the Lowest Cost to Obtain Starwood Platinum?

What did it cost you to obtain SPG Plat status?

This was around $500 and I'm wondering if this might be the lowest.

Ok, it may be that low. But it's via the challenge, so once a lifetime deal
Never seen $26 a night rates though...

$26 a night incl. breakfast for two... That's not even breakfast for one at some hotels!

ACK! Cost me way more....on average $250 per night x 25 = $ 6,250

Hence why I am no longer chasing Plat anymore. At those rates, just keeping gold is ridiculous.

I was Plat for a few years, but after a stuff up with my counter and SPG refusing to fix it and then saying I hadn't earned Plat, I made a decision not to bother chasing Plat anymore. I have a lot more money in MY pockets now so if I want a suite, I can book one

Cost me $0.

At least, enough stays/nights to requal was paid by my employer. I had a few personal nights in there but those were over and above requal levels.

Technically, you can do it for $0.00 staying on points only. But it will take at least 2000 x 50 = 100K points at Cat 1 property

No, you can do it for 2k x 25 (stays) = 50k points.

And if you're already platinum when you do it, it would actually only be 37,500 points after deducting the platinum amenity for each of the 25 stays (assuming you stay at one of the seven full-service category 1 properties around the world, none of which are in the U.S., South America, or Europe).

Using this calculation, 37500 points can be had for 75000 Amex Membership Rewards points, which have a value of AUD750.00, to me.

On the other hand, although the points have value, the cost is zero, so Plat status can be reached without spending a cent at Starwood Hotels.

All 41 of my nights last year were points or C&P. I would say 3/4 were points, and 1/4 C&P. Not sure what the cash portion added up to.

that's interesting. The conversion rate here is 3 MR = 1 starpoint. And 1€ earns only 1.5 MR.

A nice little employer perk. Work 10 years, get Lifetime Plat status

I'm 9 stays away in 2013 from 10 yrs of Platinum.

The problem is I'm 195 nights away from Lifetime (2nd qualification) as well. So the hope is I can pile on the nights in next few years. 195 nights X $50 (cheapest room possible) = $10k of spending at a min.
