Free breakfast for Platinum in 2012?

When I was checking in at the Danieli yesterday the desk manager mentioned that Platinum members would receive free breakfast starting in March of 2012. I asked if this was hotel-specific, as I hadn't heard anything, and she indicated that, to her knowledge, it was a system-wide benefit.

Has anyone else heard about this? I did a quick thread search and didn't see anything, so figured I would ask.

As an aside, this would be great at the Danieli, where the room service continental breakfast is 42 euros and the Sunday brunch is 72 euros.

First I'm hearing of this, although it's a benefit offered by other programs at their elite status.

It would be nice if true.

What other benefits would one like to see added on as an SPG Plat?

I've enjoyed the benefits so far in my first year as a Plat and look forward to remaining a loyal SPG member for a long time to come.

I'm just waiting to hear from the business travelers who will complain that since their companies pay for everything already, they get no benefit.

My company pays for everything already, but I get to pocket whatever I don't spend from my Per Diem. This would be pretty nice.

at the end of the day, it's a question of whether the costs outweigh the benefits for SPG.

I for one, will probably stop "looking around" at other programs altogether if bfast was to become a plat benefit at SPG.

We can get *points for not taking breakfast?

My corporate rate includes breakfast and internet access.

This would be great...BUT, in the past SPG was the trailblazer. Now, SPG is the copycat of Hyatt (i.e., internet, breakfast, etc.).

Of course, Starwood still leads when it comes to C&P and its property network. But, from reading the Star MegaDO posts, I believe Hyatt is considering some sort of C&P option (yes, Hyatt would be copying SPG with this one).

Having said all of that, free breakfast for Platinums would be great.

Priority Club also has C&P, not sure if they had it before SPG

This would take care of the hotels in Bali, none of them offer free breakfast at the moment unlike Phuket where it's an unpublished benefit

It's not about who pays - its about the perceived value. Its hard to justify $30 for a breakfast.
