Sheraton Guangzhou Hotel, China [Master Thread]
... was set to open today. Anybody there?
Seems like it is quite near the Westin and the train station. Some pretty nice opening rates though the pool/spa won't open until 2012.

About 1/2 mile away, on the other side of a big sports complex:

Definitely hoppable from the Westin; I ran to the Sheraton (by accident initially) a few months ago. It was still under construction at the time, but it is just over a half mile (~0.6 if I remember correctly) from the Westin - if you cut through the sports complex.
Anyone had any experience there yet? I love the Westin (both location - near the train station, and the facilities), but am open to trying the new one. (Probably not worth hopping for me though, unless there is a stay incentive later this year.)

Sheraton Guangzhou first impressions
I checked in last night. As a plat, I got sent up to the 33rd floor for my own check in. I was offered a juice as I waited which they were doing downstairs too. Nice, young staff who seem excited to be working here.
Still some construction outside but the interior is very nice. I was upgraded to a corner room on the 32nd floor which is huge. High ceilings and a bathtub overlooking the city.
I had a light dinner of wonton soup in the lounge bar. They seemed to be learning how to poor wine correctly, but it was fine. Might not be good service when it's crowded though. They still seem very new!
I plan on checking out the club lounge for breakfast.
Oh, yeah. The wifi is brutally slow. It took me so long to do this search on flyer talk that I figured I might as well post a report while I'm here.

stayed in November, and will stay again next month.
I like it very much. The plat upgrade I received was to a GREAT suite. THat's what I call it, not what they call it. Big, big, big.
THe lounge is nice, as is the breakfast. Not quite as nice offerings as the Westin, but PLENTY sufficient.
The Sheraton is much more convenient for the subway, as the station is a one minute walk from the entrance to the hotel.
I would recommend either, but prefer the SHeraton for it's proximity to the subway.

We had a fantastic 5 night stay at the Sheraton last week. We were also upgraded to a GREAT xx10 suite. Seriously HUGE suite with massive living area, spacious bedroom, luxurious bath with rain shower, soaker tub, double vanity, high ceilings, half bath in the entryway, and windows everywhere. The suite was on the corner of the building so we had views in every which direction. If someone had told me I was in a Westin, I would have believed them and I probably would have declared it the nicest Westin I'd stayed in.
The lounge was great with varied breakfast and evening offerings. There were also sodas, water, and beer available all day. It's a grand space on the top floor with a nice little outdoor space as well. Staff were extremely friendly and they greeted us by name after our first visit.
We were in town to complete the adoption of our daughter and the staff were very accommodating. Lounge staff were always checking in with us to see if we needed anything, asking about the baby, playing with her etc. Once, my wife went to get a banana and they didn't have any so they delivered a couple to our room. The rest of our adoption group was staying at the China Hotel (Marriott) so we were constantly shuttling across town via taxi and the bellhops were great about flagging them down and telling them where to take us. Sometimes, they would walk down the street to flag one down and hitch a ride back up to the hotel to pick us up.
I can't think of a bad thing to say about this place. We stayed at the W Hong Kong after this and it felt like a downgrade. The Sheraton Guangzhou was very nice and I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Back again, and again i have to say, it is the best SPG hotel in the region.
camparing to the sheraton in hkg...like day and night...
Staff is tremendous, lounge is spacy, during the fair the even expand the happy hour, the food is great and offers a wide range.
The Westin just across the soccerstadium is very good too, but sheraton a notch above.
