Sheraton Nha Trang, Vietnam [Master Thread]

Just completed a 4 day stay at this property on C&P and I was very happy having a wonderful time there. Everything about the Hotel is new and feels like a 5*. The Hotel is definitely in a class of its own right now. The architecture is modern, well designed, and really stands out on its own (especially at night). Location wise, it is right at the center and right on the main part of the beach. Taxis are cheap and queue up right outside.

I was informed that the Hotel officially opened around Aug 31st to the public. As a Gold, I was upgraded to a nice room overlooking the Bay with a spendid view of the beach from a high floor. Staff at the front desk were very friendly, polite, and efficient. Was escorted to my room and Welcomed with bowl of Fruits & complimentary water. Room has flat screen TV, mini bar, coffee/tea, Hot Pot, complimentary bottle of water (2) / day. My room was good in size with a sofa and desk, and the all-glass bathroom was very contemporary.

Internet access is 120/180/260k VND for 4/12/24 hrs. They also have a weekly rate which I had not seen at any hotel before. They have PCs downstairs that can be used for free with an access ticket from the front desk.

Very attentive staff that was looking after my every step and was helpful with any request. They have a number of restaurants/bars but I did not eat there, so no comments.

Two items that impressed me and is worth noting.

1) The rooftop swimming pool which overlooks the beach and has a great view.

2) The cooking school where the chef teaches you Vietnamese cooking in a modern/dedicated Kitchen from 08:30-12:30. Highly recommended and 24h advance reservation needed. Cost is $35 and includes cyclo trip to the morning market (one of my most memorable trip), taxi back to hotel, cooking demonstration on how to make Pho, spring rolls, fish clay pot, desert, and eating what you make.
This experience worked out great for me as I had a return flight to HCMC at 16:00 the same day. So for $35, I got to tour a exotic market , learn VN cooking, eat excellent VN food for lunch, before taking the taxi to the airport at 14:00

I have some pics, but I will leave it to your imagination. Everything that is said about the Sheraton on tripadvisor is spot-on.

This is a great Hotel for SPG.

Just came back from a FANTASTIC award stay at the Sheraton Nha Trang, including celebrating New Year's Eve there at the Gala Dinner including live music entertainment.

I concur with all of the positive points made by lesenok except that we did not partake in the cooking school experience (perhaps next time?)

As I presented my SPG AMEX card at the front desk, I was recognized as a Platinum and was then escorted to the Club Lounge for check-in.

The Club Lounge at the Sheraton Nha Trang is absolutely SPECTACULAR, with a sweeping killer view of Nha Trang Bay, hailed as one of the most beautiful bays in the world! Not only that, but they have the friendly service and superb food and beverage to match!

They have a chef in a little kitchen who can of course cook your eggs to order, but he can also make you the Vietnamese national dish of pho, either pho ga (chicken) or pho bo (beef), along with chao ca (fish congee) which all tasted delicious! Their selection of fruit juices and fresh fruits are outstanding too.

In the evening, in addition to Australian and South American red and white wines and a variety of international & Vietnamese beers, they also serve Domaine Chandon's Etoile "Champagne" from California - now that classy! Their hors-d'oeuvres score points for imagination, with everything from sushi, finger sandwiches, sate sticks, to Vietnamese finger food favorites such as cha gio (egg roll) and goi cuon (spring roll). I have been to club lounges from Starwood, Hilton, and Hyatt around the world, and this lounge rates as one of the best, if not the best one that I have been in! ^

We were upgraded to a junior suite, with a separate living room and bedroom, with a lovely view of the beach (I was told that every room has a view of the beach due to how the hotel is built). The bed is nice and the high thread count sheets were super. The suite even has a separate powder room in addition to the very modern and nice bathroom. The wired Internet access in the room is fast, and complimentary for me as a Platinum. The wireless Internet access in the lounge is complimentary and acceptable speed wise.

The GM sent us a bowl of fresh fruits and a Happy New Year card, a nice touch. We have our complimentary waters, and later on, a tray of chocolates and pastries was sent up to our room as well.

The beach is across the street, and they have a security guy whose job is to hold up a sign to slow down traffic so that you can safely cross the street ^
Their attendants will get you beach chairs, towels, drinks, in the Sheraton "enclave" on the beach, very nice!

I also agree that the infinity pool is spectacular and I was surrounded by guests from New York, Toronto, Moscow, St Peterburg, Sydney, Tokyo, Dallas, a truly international presence.

The hotel has an outstanding wine bar, with all kinds of fancy Champagne such as Dom Perignon, Veuve Clicquot, Krug, etc, along with wines from around the world. It also has a Vietnamese/Asian restaurant that we did not try.

We attended the New Year Eve Gala Dinner in the main restaurant on the first floor, and while it was not cheap (by local standard), it was an incredible buffet with fantastically fresh local seafood, imported smoked salmons from around the world, Jamon Serrano from Spain, European cold cuts, sushi, roast beef, leg of lamb, various Vietnamese dishes, salads and fruits, and a pastry section to die for! The meal came with all the wines that you can drink as well as a glass of Champagne at the stroke of midnight! The live band was pretty good and the place was packed.

I agree that this hotel is truly 5 stars and in a league of its own for now, but there are Marriott, Renaissance, and others being developed nearby, so they will need to be on their toes.

But I can't wait to return as their staff is truly outstanding, especially the team in the Club Lounge. On our day of departure, we had a fairly early flight to Hanoi, and Cam Ranh Airport is a good 30 minutes from the hotel; so the Club Lounge staff packed us a breakfast to go! Now THAT is good service, even though we woke up early enough to help ourselves to another bowl of pho ga and some juices and fresh fruits.

Nha Trang has so many superb restaurants of all kinds and all price points, so if you need some recommendations, please PM me.

Top Notch

My stay here got off to a rough start. The pre-arranged hotel car was not at the airport when I arrived So I hopped in a taxi for the 320,000VND ride to the hotel. When I arrived at the hotel, I was greeted by the GM, Scott Hodgetts as soon as I exited the taxi. He immediately apologized for the mix up and paid the taxi fare. He also arranged for my return ride to the airport in their BMW at their expense. He personally escorted me to the 25th floor club lounge for check in and sat with me for 20 minutes talking about things to do here. Scott also remembered me from his days at the Sheraton Saigon when he was GM (my first stay there was in July 2003). He truly felt sorry about the car issue. This is great customer service and I will be sure to send an email to Starwood to make sure Scott and his team are recognized for this. ^

The hotel is quite nice. I was upgraded to an executive suite with fantastic views of the city and ocean. The lounge and pool are also great! They even have Patron Blanco, Repasodo and Anejo (quite rare in Vietnam). Will definitely be coming back here.

Hats off to Scott and his team. Great hotel and even better guest relations!^^

Glad to hear that they made up for the rough start so that your stay was enjoyable!

Scott Hodgetts is a great guy and I met him during the New Year's Eve Gala Dinner, and he will continue to lead this fine hotel to greater heights (my SPG platinum card now has this hotel as background art).

Agree with you about the fine selection of liquors & spirits at this place, as their F&B guy Michiel really tries hard!

I am looking forward to returning soon. I miss that incredible club lounge with the spectacular view, the superb food, and the extra friendly staff.

Does anyone know how much it costs to get the hotel to send a car to pick up from the airport in Saigon and taken to the hotel in Nha Trang?

you might not realize that it is really far from Saigon to Nha Trang. I think it takes around 7 hours by car. I suggest you fly or take the train.

If you are doing a Vietnam vacation I highly recommend flying. You can find a multi-city SGN-CXR-HAN-SGN ticket on Vietnam airlines for less than $300.

What have folks found to do in Nha Trang besides hang out at the hotel? I'm looking for restaurants, shopping (particularly high end leather purses), sightseeing,. What about one of the beauty salons that does a shampoo massage? We went to some seriously local place last time we were in Nha Trang. I have no idea how to find it again.

Are platinums consistently getting upgraded to suites?

Just came back from a great 3 nights at this property. Despite not having status and booking on cash+points, we were upgraded to an executive suite with sweeping ocean views. Buffet breakfast was also outstanding as everyoen has mentioned. Would come back again for sure.

Glad to hear that you upgraded you, even without status. Was the hotel busy, or slow?

Carol, for your high end leather purses, shop for them on Dong Khoi Street across from the Sheraton Saigon in HCM City, as you will have better choices than Nha Trang.

For sightseeing, I highly recommend the Hon Chon rock formation, quite spectacular, along with the Oceanographic Institute.

Has anyone come by car to the hotel from Ho Chi Minh? Flights are completely full around the time we want to travel, and we are considering alternatives. We've been given an acceptable price for car and driver; now just need to decide if it will be a tolerable experience.

Also, can someone PM me with a contact and email address at the hotel?

Scott Hodgetts who was the GM here appears to have moved on and is the GM at the Saigon Sheraton.

I am also going from HCMC to Nha Trang in June; would you mind giving me some car transfer infos (price, company & type of car)?

Thanks in advance.
