Am I right that SK is the only *A option into KEF? If so, isn't backtracking mandatory?

I'm located in Germany, does anyone have a suggestion for the easiest way for me to get one of these issued? Any suggestions for minimizing fuel and other surcharges would also be appreciated ?

Is the 29,000 Y price from Iceland really just ~US$1500?

Using the Jayhawk spreadsheet and today's exchange rate - that's what I see...

However, I don't know what flights would be available from KEF to START/END the journey!

Iceland is in IATA zone 2, as is Europe -- so 'backtracking' doesn't come into it.

cheers,

Henry

Right now I believe it is, but come June 6 you can fly LH HAM-KEF and DUS-KEF nonstop.

So, if I'm doing a westbound RTW, I could theoretically do:

KEF-CPH-IAD-XXX-cross pacific-XXX-BKK-CPH-KEF?

As long as I keep it under 29,000 miles of course....

Yup. On an earlier thread when this was raised (after the Iceland currency first fell out) I posted at least one itinerary I ran thru the *A RTW tool that confirmed ok. That tool is really a lot of fun and pretty helpful for figuring these things out.

Given how hard it is to get to KEP to start, I kind of think ICN for a few hundred more is a better option.

Does anyone know how far in advance a ticket can be purchased? If I wanted to travel Jan 2010, could I buy a ticket next month?

I believe most airlines will only let you book (approximately) 330 days out.

Of course you're right, duh. I will have to pray that exchange rates stay bad for the next few months.

A poster above asked about buying the tickets in Germany. As I understand it, you can now buy tickets anywhere for the price of the start location, correct?

Cool As of 3 November!!

Perhaps the bigger problem might be meeting the new restriction to a maximum of 16 coupons. I just picked up two RTWs starting at ICN and it was not easy getting everything into just 16 coupons, especially when an airport transfer on the ground, e.g. MXP/LIN or SVO/DMD counts as a flight coupon! I expect this would be an even bigger issue out of KEP!
