Best *A program for not so frequent flyer.
Hello,
I'm currently trying to decide which *A program to go with, and i was hoping that you could help me out.
I'm from Denmark and my main airport is Copenhagen, it's a pretty big airport with loads of flights. As a Scandinavian i like, and fly SAS a lot, but i'm attracted to other programs because they offer faster and longer lasting *A Gold
So what i would like to ask you is if you had some suggestions for programs which offer good mileage accrual on SAS, LH, LOT, TK and UA. I'm quite attracted to OZ's program but i don't think the accrual is that good.
Thanks a lot!
Sincerely Sebastian

OZ's very favorable redeeming rates more than make up for the difficulty in accrual.
In other words, OZ's miles are simply worth more.

No other FFP can beat Europe-North/Central America business roundtrip for just 80k.
And the fuel surcharge is considerably lower than the European carriers'
(A few dozens when flying UA, non when flying TK)
Beware though that LH and OZ don't get along very well.
Heavily discounted LH fares such as K/L/P don't get credited on OZ.
(Well, they hardly do on anything else than LH, SK or UA anyway)
Flying premium economy instead would be well worth the extra costs in these cases (100%) considering how powerful OZ miles are. (and lifetime status at 500k)

I checked and djjaguar64 is spot on.
You will get 100% for W/U/K/L/T/G/O fares on A3 while they yield only 50% on OZ.
If you fly mostly these fares on SAS, and aren't worried about A3's (and Greece's) financial status and after a lifetime status, A3 is clearly the best pick.

Oh, I forgot to mention RTW(Round the world) business just for 230k OZ miles (325k on LH).
Enough said.
If you are a US resident, go for BoA Asiana VISA Signature credit card.
10k OZ miles every year + 1~2 miles per dollar spent (annual fee $99)
Considering how much OZ mile is worth, it's better than any other airline credit card.
Annual fee is virtually non-existent (I would buy 10k OZ miles for $100 anytime of the day)
Combined with OZ's family mileage plan, it gets brutally efficient.

The brand got changed to VISA Signature. (Which I prefer over Amex)
Beware though that the use of the mileage certificate is very restrictive:
- ONLY on Asiana flights
- ONLY for the cardholder
- ONLY one certificate per flight (one way)
- ONLY valid for one year from the date it got issued
The worst thing is that it's virtually unusable for people who just started accruing OZ miles.
Theoretically, if you have enough miles to spend, you can schedule your roundtrip so that you can consume the old one on outbound and the next one on inbound.
To sum it up, unless you can make good use of this certificate and/or the $100 discount on Asiana flights every year, or you spend very much on gas and groceries, it's only good for the signup bonus of 30,000 miles.
