UAL 747 VS. OZ 380 - Business Class

Hello,

I will be flying from PHX to ICN using UAL miles. I have the options below in business class. Any advice?

70K Miles
United – PHX-SFO (319)
United – SFO-ICN ( 747)

80K Miles
United – PHX –LAX ( Canadair Regional Jet 200)
Asiana – LAX – ICN (380)

Thanks,

Anything but UA, generally...

You might find this thread helpful: UA Global First vs. Asiana Business

I would pick Asiana for the direct aisle access, much better food, and gracious service. *A lounge at TBIT is also much nicer than SFO United Club. Make sure and leave sufficient time (3 hours minimum) for your LAX connection. You'll have to exit T8 (where UA flight will arrive) and reclear security at TBIT.

Not a single advantage to UA. Asiana should be the choice.

The much easier connection at SFO is a UA advantage, as is the mainline connecting flight vs. the RJ to LAX.

So long as I could book a long connection at LAX, these would not matter much to me personally.

Thanks everyone, I booked Asiana with a 4 hr connection. I do prefer connecting at SFO, but I think the single seats outweigh the connection. I am hoping a ticket will open up on Asiana's SFO flight.

10,000 miles fewer. Advantage, UA.

As I've already mentioned, though, I'd choose OZ as well.

UA's slight advantage is the length of the seat when it is in bed position. I am not especially tall, but I find Asiana's seat a little "short". Other than that, Asiana is better in every category.

Stay with OZ 380 out of LAX rather than SFO !

In SFO, UA domestic will arrive at T3, UA international flights depart out of G, where there is direct hallway/bridge connecting both terminals airside.

However, if it is UA connecting to OZ at SFO, it is like LAX, you have to exit security, walk to A, then reclear security once again ! (OZ use int'l A in SFO, and T3 is not connected to A airside !)

Also, the probability of your OZ 777 out of SFO getting swapped from QS to non-QS (777 with angle seats and no AVOD in 2-3-2 seating) is much higher compare to 380 out of LAX !)

Also, QS on the 380 has a few improvements over QS on the 777s-most notably wider space at the shoulders from the side panels being further away, which helps make the seat (and the bed) less narrow, more angled for privacy, and have a little more storage (at least according to Carfield in his TR)

It's a much shorter/easier walk at SFO than LAX. But agreed, you have to reclear security to get to OZ in the A concourse.

This is an excellent point. I would stick with LAX for this reason alone.

Asiana. Specifically for the service.

Albeit I got good experiences in UA too. But it is more hit and miss.

I also prefer the food Asiana cooks.
