Strategies to Fly Star Carriers

I'm based in NY and the company I work for has a policy of booking with their preferred carrier (AA) whenever possible. Next level of preference is to book the cheapest fare according to their internal travel website (which, based on my observation, tends to be DL quite often).

While we do get some leeway in terms of which flight to book (based on schedule, etc.), as a new employee, I don't want to stand out as the guy requesting an alternate flight all the time. Just wondering if the experts on here have any discreet strategies for maximizing the chances of flying a Star carrier.

The answer will very much depend on:
- Where are you located?
- Where do you fly? (domestic/transborder/international)

The "strategies" Iīve seen are:

- tell your travel department you prefer a non-stop flight (when you know the non-stop flight is operated by a *A carrier)
- be willing to connect / "save money for the company" if you know the lowest fare is generally offered by a *A carrier (there are some intīl routes where this conept applies)
- tell your travel department you prefer to take a flight after xx p.m. or would like to be at your destination before xx a.m. (of course it would be a coincidence that the only flights after xx p.m. are operated by a *A carrier, this trick works best on intīl routes where there are only a few flights a day)

Anyhow, I wouldnīt get too wound up about this. AA offers a pretty decent FFP, DL sucks so Iīd try to avoid them, and you should be able to fly enough for leisure to requalify as AC P/E.
