Found good fare to go to GYE from NYC. Wondering whether worth visiting. Have option of 48 or 24 hours on the ground

Guayaquil is a mostly modern city -- it's Ecuador's booming financial center -- and doesn't have the sights and culture of Quito. There are a few things to see (some interesting museums and the Malecón, the restored riverfront). You could fill up a weekend with them. If you're going all that way, opt for 48 hours.

In a word, no. IMHO Guayaquil is a waste of time.
However, you can easily get from there to Cuenca or to the beaches around Montaņita. Both are worth visiting although Montaņita itself is a scruffy hole.

How far are Cuenca and Montanita? How does one get there? Rent a car and driver?
