Sounds sensible. On the other hand SQ212 only has 4 F seats compared to 12 R in the A380. So they have more control over the release of the new Suites if fewer people can book it before the official announcement.

I would have assumed they would just not release them. But I guess we shall see!

I prefer shopping where I can see the prices and maybe test drive, check under the hood and what not.
SQ319, FN-GM and wolf72 like this.

@FN-GM

Maybe a new home for the SQ birds?

Maybe or it could be the MH birds that are up for sale.

Possible, but the exSQ aircraft are ~2 years older and will probably be a lot cheaper to acquire. I also think they had to have a certain check before being returned which would reduce startup costs for HiFly.

The upside of the MH birds would be they probably have fewer cycles and overall hours & as they were not the first produced aircraft they're probably more efficient, but are probably more expensive.

I believe you know this but...last October, Bloomberg posted:

"Unloved A380 Gets Lifeline With Plan for 700-Seat Hajj Fleet"

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-malaysia-plan

Other articles at the same time mentioned that MH attempted to sell them, but no one seems to want the used ones.

In April, Reuters reported

"Malaysia Airlines close to launching A380 charter carrier for pilgrim flights"

Quote:
"DUBAI, April 27 (Reuters) - Malaysia Airlines is close to launching a new airline that will use its six Airbus A380s to fly passengers undertaking the Muslim pilgrimages of Haj and Umrah, Chief Executive Peter Bellew said.

Bellew told Reuters that all the key personnel, apart from a chief executive, have been appointed and are likely to be announced in the next two weeks as Malaysia Airlines finalises plans set in motion last year."

Other than being parked, maybe the new home for SQ's old 380s will reveal itself.

British Airways now in talks with Dr. Peters to take first four aircraft (SKA-SKD) on 6-year leases we believe.

Seems like the HiFly deal may be dead.

Delivery of SQ's new A380

FYI: delivery of SQ's newest A380 will arrive into SIN on Dec 14 (no, we don't have a specific time yet, just a schedule for the delivery flight).

They could certainly afford it looking at their financial figures, which are rock solid and make their recent troubles with "pilot scheduling" look like a simple hiccup.

I'm just wondering whether they could fill these A380s on such newly-created "signature" long-haul routes like London to New York or London to Singapore/Bangkok for example or whether the hub-to-hub thing on such a scale wouldn't work so well for them?
