SQ announces Prem Y available for award bookings plus other changes

It has finally happened:
https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/s...news/PEY-annc/
  • Premium Y available for reward bookings. Looks VERY expensive.
  • No more upgrades from Y to J where Prem Y is available
  • Mile cost increase to some EU destinations
  • Removal of Full awards (did anyone ever use them?)

The loss of Y to J upgrades seems like the most heinous change, but otherwise it could have been worse...?

Ooh, happy to see they haven't devalued first/suites for most other locations

[edit] Hmmmmm, seems that PY is in most cases much closer in cost to J than Y. e.g. Zone6 -- Y 18.5, PY 30, J 35.

agreed. Could be far worse. At least they did not adjust the award level higher.

Good on them to refund bookings made on Full award from 24May onwards. Feel that Full is a rip off anyway.

IST continues to provide good value with biz saver at 45k.

We of course lose the cheaper AMS, CPH, FCO that goes from 60 to 80.

As a frequent traveler to CDG, I take solace with the fact that I won't be tempted to fly to AMS just to save 20k (before discount)

Disappointed with the redemption levels for PY, not worth it IMHO.

I see no devaluation to J and F as a good news. I won't redeem for PEY anyway.

Are you sure IST isn't included in the 80 increase?

Hmm, will be interesting to see if upgrade availability opens up for my premium economy ticket mid June (SYD-SIN) (to upgrade to business).

Not entirely sure if it is worth spending the points though (SQ222).

Yes, Turkey is Zone 10, Europe is Zone 11.

Well you spent the money on PY, which is worse.

What happens if you want to upgrade your Sydney-Rome flight? SQ222 has Premium Economy and SQ366 doesn't. Do you upgrade from Economy to Premium or to Business? Or will you have to do two separate upgrades? Could this be a big problem with connecting flights when one flight has Premium and the other not?

Wow. The devaluation of AMS / FCO / CPH was rather well hidden under "other changes". And only a "highly generous" week's notice to redeem at old rate.

Didn't have enough points at the time for J and didn't want to fly Y. So meh.

The PY redemption rates don't appeal to me at all because of how close they are to business rates.

e.g. SIN to USA East Coast
PY --> 59,500
J --> 72,250

I'd gladly top up the extra 12,750 miles to fly J in a heartbeat. Heck, even if I didn't have the miles, I'd gladly spend the us$520 to buy 13k miles to top up.
