Is the reason you want to book this as a RT and not 2 x OW that you want to have a stopover in YYZ?
Both SFO and YVR are in the same zone (North America) for partner awards so I don't see why your intended booking wouldn't work from a routing perspective.
However, I don't recall if you are allowed a stopover on a booking within the same zone. Maybe someone else can chip in on that part.

h. Complimentary stopovers are not permitted if an itinerary contains only European cities, or is between the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico or U.S. Virgin Islands.
