Premium economy cheaper than regular economy??

I was randomly browsing today (yes that bored), and came across a booking where the Premium Economy is $1046, whereas the regular Economy (Flexi/E) is $1526, for the exact same flight (SIN-PVG, 17/26 Sep, SQ830/SQ833).

That's 50% cheaper to fly Premium Economy than regular Economy!
What gives?

Sweet deal vs premium economy?

I would gladly choose PE.

Oh wait, MH has J for $100 more.

That is easy to explain.
Cheap economy fares seem to be not available for a one-way ticket.

PE is a new product, so it's not as fully booked as Y yet. It won't last long at this price.

I did a return search SIN-PVG, and strangely enough Sweet Deals is SGD 1,016.70, and Preimum Economy is SGD 1,046.70.

So even discounted Economy is (practically) the same price as PE.

Sweet Deals SGD 1,016.70
Flexi Saver SGD 1,286.70
Flexi SGD 1,286.70
Premium Economy SGD 1,046.70

Well, it's still business class in the end.

You can get SIN-SYD at 1.2k on PE. Now that's a steal!

Wow, I also similar think on SIN-HKG, but at least for this route PE only cheaper compare to the most ex Economy.

These PE fares are marketed as such so as to gain popularity. Usually there are multiple fare buckets within the PE fare structure and one or two which fall in the low end. These are marketing tactics to promote and sell PE.
AC does toe same, their C fare sometimes is cheaper than the most expensive economy fare.

PE36SG SQ P Round-Trip 650.00(SGD) PE
PGV2SG SQ P Round-Trip 650.00(SGD) PE
PESG SQ P Round-Trip 750.00(SGD) PE
PESGPO SQ P Round-Trip 750.00(SGD) PE

Are you 10000% sure?

Look no further than here to be corrected with your statement:

Very sure (As confirmed by lcpteck as well: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/24924343-post26.html)

Here's a sample from EF. Of course there could be one-off changes, but generally, 777/330s operate the route. As you already know, this routes becomes exclusively A330 from mid-Aug (As from Airlineroute http://airlineroute.net/2015/07/01/mh-pvg-aug15/).

Of course there could be one-off changes,
You can be sure that CEO Mueller will allow for these changes way more often.
If MH cannot profitably fill a plane to China, it will substitute with a narrowbody plane.

Well, if that becomes a habit and competitors use widebodies, then MH is doomed for sure.
