Apologies if this has been asked before, I searched and could not find the answer:

I am going to move to HKG or SIN later this year, but won't know which until the summer. As I want to go back to Europe next Christmas for the festive season, I booked myself an award in F HKG-SIN-LHR and am planning to book the return flight in a few days, too.

If I do end up moving to Singapore instead, can I call SQ and ask them to simply refund me the miles and taxes for the HKG-SIN (or SIN-HKG) leg while leaving the long-haul portion SIN-Europe (or v.v.) in place?

Or do they insist on me having to cancel the whole HKG-SIN-Europe award before I can then book the SIN-Europe again? I am concerned about losing the award availability on the long-haul flight to someone else who is waitlisted for the same flight in this second scenario...

Can anybody shed some light on this, please? @:-)

SQ will most likely tell you have to cancel and rebook. thus running the risk of losing the award availability. Best to call KF and see if they can work out something.

Worst case, buy a USD$50 1-way budget ticket SIN-HKG and continue your trip home

Thanks, I did call, and they confirmed that they would have to cancel the award before releasing the seats again.

This seems to go hand in hand with their award quotas for certain routes: I have seen it before where you had availability in C for e.g. FRA-SIN-HKG, but not if you wanted to just book FRA-SIN without travelling on to HKG (Instead it would show as "waitlist" only). A bit annoying really, but that seems to be the way their cookie crumbles...

As you said, in the "worst" case I will just buy a o/w flight SIN-HKG, spend a few nice hours or days in HKG, and then simply commence my long way home there.
