Upper deck economy class questions
Hi,
I will fly on SQ A380s, and I have questions about the Upper Deck Y Class: is it noisy (as it is at the rear of the plane), is it bumpy (for the same reason)?

Engine sound is slightly higher on the upper deck in Y than on the lower deck sitting in the first few rows of Y. But then down below the cabin has more "people noise" and each row is wider by two seats. And downstairs, up-front is where you'll find a lot of families with infants, so not sure those ultra-quiet-can't-hear-the-engines seats are going to be a bonus.

I am booked in SQ Y LHR-SIN in Dec and have not been able to reserve UD seat.
United award ticket. Entire UD is blocked out. Tried calling, mailing and through a local travel agent in Singapore but no dice.

To sum things up the upper deck is the best choice by far, unless you happen to be a party of three who prefer to have an entire side row to themselves on the lower deck setup of 3-4-3.

I was in the same boat - I called united and got the SQ reference #, then input that on the SQ website and it let me select seats. I noted that all were blocked the first few times I tried, then somehow magically 3 weeks before flight a pair of seats opened up on the UD

The 380 is actually incredibly quiet ... to a degree that passenger noise is far dominant. Even in the aft of the plane.
The back is indeed much more bumpy and SQ "don't take detours" flight style often makes it a rattle fest. But the 380 has at least an active and very effective turbulence suppression which once turned on does an excellent job.

I would fly UD without hesitation. Much more quieter in terms of people noise. FAs have "less" to do as well.
I didn't feel like there was more engine noise or bumps. All personal appreciation I guess.

Upper deck is the way to go, no doubt about it.
