Thumbs down TSA at it again... This time damages 14 AE planes at ORD

The thread on the AA forum (originally posted by AEpilot76), but is relevant to TS/S

http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=857098

Our friends at the Transportation Security Administration decided to see if they could gain access to AE aircraft while they were sitting overnight in ORD. The brilliant employees used an instrument located just below the cockpit window that is critical to the operation of the onboard computers. They decided this instrument, the TAT probe, would be adequate to use as a ladder.

BRILLIANT!!

Below is just a couple of the write-ups. They damaged a total of 14 AE airplanes

Well, ya gotta hand it to them for their persistence!

Where I work, they likely would have said, "Hey! These planes are locked ... we can't inspect them. That means we can go on break! Cool!"

Blog material for sure. Maybe the lawyer or Kippie himself will respond (Yeah, right). Let's start a blogging blitz and see what happens. This might even prempt the Friday puppy post...

What were the screeners doing running around a hanger unescorted anyway?

UPDATE: I just send a "tip line" email to the Trib (who also shares tips with a couple of TV and radio stations) and included the maintenance log entry and the link to the AA forum page. Film at 11 (We can only hope.)

It's the culture of the agency (emanating down from Bush through Chertoff to Hawley): we can do anything we want to do because we're protecting you from terrorists.

Jacka**es.

I hope at the least the individual screeners get fired.

Will it make Monday's TSA Weekly Body Count?

TSA Week at a Glance (August 18, 2008 - August 24, 2008)

6 non documented immigrants captured and returned to Mexico
22 firearms found at checkpoints
5 artfully concealed prohibited items found at checkpoints
18 incidents that involved a checkpoint closure, terminal evacuation or sterile area breach
14 non-airworthy aircraft prevented from flying by hard working night shift

AA should sue the TSA for damaging their aircraft, and all pax delayed or inconvenienced by this stupidity should sue, too.

Planes don't have locks. GA aircraft do, but transport category aircraft don't. You don't need anything but knowledge to start one, either.

It just goes to show how little TSA and its employees knows about the job they are supposed to be doing on multiple levels.

Its offical it has hit the newswires

http://www.abcnews.go.com/Blotter/st...5613502&page=1

The TSA agent, as part of spot inspection of aircraft security, climbed onto the parked aircraft using control sensors mounted on the fuselage as handholds, according to a TSA official in Chicago, Elio Montenegro.

"Our inspector was following routine procedure for securing the aircraft that were on the tarmac," Montenegro told ABCNews.com.

The TSA agent was attempting to determine if someone could break into a parked aircraft, according to Montenegro.

Pilots were furious at the TSA misstep.

"The brilliant employees used an instrument located just below the cockpit window that is critical to the operation of the onboard computers," one pilot wrote on an American Eagle internet forum. "They decided this instrument, the TAT probe, would be adequate to use as a ladder," the pilot wrote.

Another pilot wrote the TSA agents, "are now doing things to our aircraft that may put our lives, and the lives of our passengers at risk."
