Qantas introducing SQ-style A380 pricing

Was just checking SYD-LAX fares and noticed QF has filed a new first class fare (with the word TESTING in it) for its A380 flights. The fare is an R class fare and AUD22500 RT.

Code:
V FARE BASIS BK FARE TRAVEL-TICKET AP MINMAX RTG
 21 R2RT R‡R 21437.00 ---- - -/12M PA05
PASSENGER TYPE-ADT AUTO PRICE-YES
FROM-SYD TO-LAX CXR-QF TVL-10JUN08 RULE-5024 IPRP/3
FARE BASIS-R2RT NORMAL FARE DIS-N VENDOR-ATP
FARE TYPE-FR RT-FIRST CLASS RESTRICTED
AUD 22500.00 0014 E23MAY08 D-INFINITY FC-R2RT FN-
SYSTEM DATES - CREATED 23MAY08/0032 EXPIRES INFINITY
Code:
THE FARE COMPONENT MUST INCLUDE TRAVEL BETWEEN
   AUSTRALIA AND LAX ON
ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING
           ANY QF FLIGHT
       BY AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A380-800.
I was kind of hoping more 380 carriers would make SQ back off its ridiculous 380 F surcharges. Guess not

Does this mean I won't be able to snag any of these seats using a RTW A fare?

Interesting but not surprising, QF is not known for its cheap fares

Does any of this show up on the MEL-LAX route ?

For those in the know, this is why R class was removed from the domestic fare structure to allow it to become a new class for the first cabin on the A380

So, Qantas are going to use 'R' Class and charge a premium for a seat that is inferior to F on SQ 77W or the new CX F Product. Interesting to see if this will work - but I guess it will to LAX being the only decent product on the route. But to LHR/SIN, why would anyone pay a surcharge to QF when you could pay the SQ surcharge and enjoy an infinitely better product

Will be interesting to see the price vs SQ, because there is a CLEAR difference in product.

I think a small premium is justiable in F, it does appear to be an improvement on the current version, can't see the ability to charge a premium in Y

This is not about a small premium. They could have done this through their normal fare structure. If this is more than a test it would be a disaster.

By calling F on the A380 "R" it removes it from all Oneworld RTW, Circle Pacific etc. products. It also makes it impossible to get any award seats (maybe only through the QF anytime seats but certainly it will block it for all other OW programs).

The consequences of this will be huge so I hope this really is a test. But I fear this will be a big devaluation. Let's just hope that they will not start to introduce surcharges for Skybeds MKII.

And AnDee, it is on the MEL-LAX route as well.

It really is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. It's certainly inferior to the SQ product so should not be charged as such.
