Sheraton Halifax Airport to open in 2011

I saw this on the Starwood Hotels & Resorts website. Sheraton Casino Halifax - Opening December, 2009. Finally a new Sheraton in Atlantic Canada. I would expect this new property to be near the Casino Nova Scotia, because of the name and because the mailing address is at the Purdy's Wharf Tower complex. There used to be a Sheraton in Halifax (Sheraton Casino Hotel), before it was changed to a generic property with no affiliation with any hotel brand (Casino Nova Scotia Hotel). In 2006, Marriott bought the hotel and the hotel went through an extensive renovation project and was renamed the (Marriott Halifax Harbourfront Hotel). For some reason the hotel distanced itself from the casino ''name''. Anyhow, Marriott is aggressively expanding in Atlantic Canada and I'm glad to see that Starwood is taking notice. Now we want a Starwood in New Brunswick.

UPDATE the new Sheraton Halifax is opening at the airport not on the waterfront...

New Brunswick happens to be one of the provinces of Canada that has never hosted a Starwood property. But, then neither did ITT Sheraton or Westin Hotels & Resorts before they became part of Starwood.

I'm not saying it never will, but I can say from an internal perspective that no new property databases are currently in the process of being built, so it may be a while.

In the meantime, sc flier has some sage advice about where inquiries like this should be directed. Here it is:

However, the question might be better asked of those folks who are hotel owners in New Brunswick who want to be part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide:

Where are you?

Okay, I must be in orbit of my own planet (par for the course), but folks.... I'm willing to put a significant amount of cash on the line here to say that I'm quite sure that Sheraton has, indeed, had a presence in NB before and it wasn't all that long ago.

I well remember the Sheraton Fredericton as being the largest hotel in the province's capital city. It reflagged some years ago to a Delta (ugh). With 225 rooms and 15 suites, it was a reasonably nice Sheraton.

Am I the ONLY one who remembers this nice little Sheraton? It was a Sheraton until the end of 2003. How soon we forget!

sbtinme Ah! sbtinme... And I thought I was fast!
William, you are almost always right, but when you talk about my neck of the woods, make sure you're right. The Sheraton Fredericton was a full service Sheraton Hotel, not those motel-style Sheraton Inns either.
Indeed, I clearly remember the Sheraton Fredericton, actually Queen Elizabeth II stayed at the Sheraton Fredericton when she came to New Brunswick five years ago or so. It was all over the news. Anyhow the hotel was changed to a Delta Hotel in 2003, not related to Delta Airlines BTW. Delta Hotels is a Canadian hotel chain with properties only in Canada.
Actually this hotel is so significant (being the largest and the most luxurious) in the Capital region that some people still call it the Old Sheraton...

Below is part of the press release;

FREDERICTON, N.B., July 16, 2003 - The Delta hotel brand is coming to Fredericton, as the Sheraton Fredericton will become the Delta Fredericton effective December 15, 2003. The Delta Fredericton will continue to be owned and managed by CHIP Hospitality, one of Canada’s leading hotel management companies.

I'm a business owner... not a hotel owner, but an owner; Lurker I can be in White Plains tomorrow.

Not as certain as you sbt, but I'm reasonably sure I stayed at that Sheraton in the fall of 2000.

Yep. I stand corrected. For some reason when I entered New Brunswick as a search parameter, no hotels showed up as having been in that province. However, when I used Fredericton as the search parameter, there it is.

Since the Sheraton Casino Halifax seems to be a NO, this one is a GO;
New Castle Hotels & Resorts based in Connecticut is planning a new (175 guestrooms) FS Sheraton Hotel at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport to open in 2011.
