For access to all international First Lounges & the New Domestic Business Class Lounges unless flying Qantas/oneworld.
Anytime Access to International J lounges and Domestic QP's still OK.

Making your lounge experience more enjoyable
As a Platinum Frequent Flyer, it is natural to expect unique levels of service, comfort and luxury when you travel with Qantas. That's why we have recently made a number of significant investments to improve your travel experience including the new Qantas First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne - lounges like no others in the world.
From mid 2008 we will also be opening Business Lounges across our domestic network for the exclusive use of Business Class travellers and Platinum members. Business Lounges are currently scheduled for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
To make certain that we meet your expectations, we would like you to know that from 1 April 2008, when flying internationally you need to be flying on the day with Qantas, Jetstar, British Airways or any of the other oneworld® member airlines to enjoy any of the Qantas First Lounges located worldwide. And when flying domestically within Australia you will need to be flying that day with Qantas or Jetstar to access the new Business Lounges.
If you are not travelling internationally with Qantas or the airlines listed, you are still more than welcome to visit the Qantas Business Lounge before your departure. Domestically, if you are not flying Qantas or Jetstar you are still welcome in The Qantas Club.

You just beat me to posting it.
Slightly disappointing for Qantas to reduce the benefits that surely cost a minimal amount to the airline. Just a question - once when going to China, I flew QF to HKG, then connected with one of the Chinese airlines (not CX or KA). Would this still entitle me to First Class lounge access in HKG as I flew Qantas that day.
Has anyone heard any more news on the Domestic Business Lounges (e.g. size, services etc) beyond the initial press release?

So no mention of whether OW Emerald will get access to Qantas Club or Domestic Business lounge when flying Qantas.
Oh whoops, I just read this in the main part of the Qantas website. So looks like OW Emeralds will get access to the Domestic Business lounge:

New: Domestic Business lounges
Qantas is proud to introduce a new domestic lounge experience. Qantas Business lounges will offer Business, Platinum and oneworld Emerald guests a new sanctuary in which to work, socialise and relax prior to flight. In addition to, and complementing, our Qantas Club facilities, the Business lounges will feature shower amenities, quiet work suites, social facilities and a signature food offering. The lounges open in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane domestic terminals mid-2008.

The lounge access page has been updated to reflect this pending change.
Here's a link to the email online: Changes to Platinum Access
^ Must be travelling, not necessarily on Qantas, British Airways or Jetstar to access the lounge. From 1 April 2008, you must be travelling on the day with Qantas, Jetstar, British Airways or any of the other oneworld members airlines to access the lounge.

I don't think the changes will make too much difference to most people but one good thing is having a separate lounge from the Qantas Club lounge when flying domestic.

I think it's fair enough that if you are traveling internationally on a non OW flight then access to the FLounge should be denied. You still get to use the J lounge which is reasonable. Would this change effect many people in any case?

What I do find surprising is the 'watering down' to Int J/Dom QP rather than the complete exclusion I had been anticipating ever since Qantas made the anytime access rules completely clear on their web site.
In any case, given this change, I do not expect any significant further variance to these particular WP access rules for a year or two at least.

Most of my travel is with Oneworld airlines so I should still have F lounge access. Of the few times I do not fly Oneworld I will just have to settle for J lounge access.

As you say, maybe that is the end of changes to WP access rules for the foreseeable future. The objective is to make the WP experience more exclusive. This fits in with the creation of the domestic business lounges and the upgrades to international first lounges. Of course, making it harder to achieve WP status in future would achieve the same thing.

Then again, how often does it happen that people use a QF lounge when not flying OW? There will be a few FTer doing this but not many other people since
a) people don't even know about it
b) the QF F lounges are usually in the area were all the OW flights depart. What a concept...

Well, as we used to always says here. QF always looking at ways to cut WP's benefits. This year had been a quite year for me in terms on traveling. 360SC with no QF flights, am I on my way to hell back by end of this month. As I did not receive any letter/e-mail from QF, I'm sure I'm not in the free renew slot. But would they throw me right back to silver, that is the question I have for myself at the mean time.
