Is the USD 500 (!) SQ surchage for the 777-300ER flights ALSO applicable to SIN-HKG? I mean is it the same amount? If so that's horrific!

HKG is 300 so still horrific, but not quite as bad. At least with HKG there are other options on SQ if you don't want to pay the surcharge. On the other ports, your only option is to use another carrier!

This is one of my complaints about the Kris Flyer enhancements. On some routes you have no choice but higher award & upgrade cost (if using KF miles) and with the roll out of 77W flights to more and more of the network the devaluation just gets worse and worse. (Inside Flyer has an article on the changes this month.)

So there is a surcharge for CRWSTARx tickets but not for FRWSTARx tickets on SQ? Once they roll out more 77W palnes CRW's could thus actually become more expensive than FRW's if you have to pay the surcharge more than once ...

Quite amazing how the airline industry is leading a trend here. Prices are kept constant but you introduce more and more surcharges / fees / "taxes" to make prices less transparent. I am waiting for surcharges because of pay increases for pilots or FAs. SQ will have to watch out that they don't price themself out of the market with this policy.

Funny as I just did a revenue booking example MEL-HKG:

MEL-HKG non-stop QF A333 in F: $9400 (!)
MEL-HKG 1 stop SQ 744F/77W in F: $5400

I think 300 USD is an outrage for a 3 hour tour.. uh I mean trip from SIN-HKG if it is 500 for SIN-CDG, a flight more than 3 times as long. I could cop $100 or $200, but $300 seems excessive. Damn money pinchers!

Isn't this surcharge applicable to SQ861/862 that's operated with 773-ER with the enhance J product? You can avoid the surcharge by using the other SIN-HKG flights, right?

Yes that is what Al B is getting at. Other routes eg SIN-CDG there no other *A nonstop option.
