ALMOST qualifying for Elite

Based on my travel plans (or lack of them) for the rest of '06, I am going to fall about 400 measly miles short of qualifying for Gold status.... Other than flying somewhere and back with the sole purpose of accumulating those miles, are there any other options for putting myself over the top ??

Thanks!

Fly one way, and get back another way. I'm guessing it won't be much cheaper.

Welcome to FT, AandJsDad

The answer is: fly. For 400 miles they may, they may not. Don't chance it...take the flight.

Cheers.

The popular opinion is that if you're within 500 miles, they'll give it to you.
You may also have the option to buy back your status if they offer it this year.
IMHO, your best bet is to take a flight. It will be cheaper than the buy back and that way you're guaranteed Gold.

No, the popular opinion is that although they have done this in the past, there's no guarantee that they'll do it in the future, so if you want the status you'll take an additional flight.

No, I think georgehf's opinion is far more popular...it just may not be true in all cases

Cheers.

It seems that the most popular opinion is to take a flight.
All three of us seem to agree on that

Indeed. You don't want them to ALMOST mail you a Gold card.

Good one !!

Looks like I'm looking for an excuse to travel.... and there are a lot worse things than that!

Thanks to all for your replies and your welcomes.
