UA: SEA-MUC $507 all in, 12.5K BIS, Orbitz

Not the greatest, but 10%+ discount over ual.com.

Spotty availability from 507 to 530ish November on... the prices aren't easily visible doing simple searches in UA.COM, but show up as mixed UA/Lufthansa on Orbitz... but are really all UA Metal.

Example:

THU Nov 9 UA 728 SEA-DEN
UA 902 DEN-IAD
UA 902 IAD-MUC
MON Nov13 LH 9268 ( UA 907 ) MUC-ORD
LH 9296 ( UA 949 ) ORD-SEA

prices at $507 all in. 12.5K/BIS miles Touching .04c/BIS mile.

Oddly, UA.COM going through their Fall Europe specials page comes up with $587+... and spot checking other days the variance is even bigger.

Booking code? One always wants to know the booking code!

The UA Fall and Winter fares that I've seen have been in W (upgradeable using SWU); the cheaper fares in S (non-upgradeable using SWU).

Some of us are happy to pay the extra $50-$100 to ride in Biz. @:-)

EDIT: However, I went ahead and priced my booked itinerary online again: it dropped by $68 (same booking code as I had booked it in originally), so I refared it online, reapplied for the upgrades, they cleared, and I phoned for seat assignments again. Luckily, got the same seats as I had before!

Which route/dates are you looking for?

There are always only a limited number of seats available at a given price point; maybe they've sold out on the particular routing and dates you are looking at. @:-)

On Orbitz, set "preferred airline" United only, and then scan across a month for the 2-4 day flexible stay option. It's very spotty... about 80% of the options were $1200+... and then there were these weird $507's and $532's. That'll give you some ideas on where to begin on focusing down to a particular option.

The next $507 I see leaves Thu Jan11 returning Mon Jan 15. Lots and lots of $528/532 options including leave friday come back Sunday, and $528 leave Saturday come back Mondays.

In fact, all the $507's leave Thursday... which isn't even a day in the Autumn Deals!

re: Booking Class... I'm not seeing that on the Orbitz screens, sorry. I know I've seen them AFTER I've purchased, but don't know where I can see them before, on Orbitz.

I'm not sure those are really the one's I'm seeing, Pat.
Those're the Autumn deals... and these critters are on a day that leaves illegal for that deal.. but is even cheaper by 10-15%. And I'm purposely doing 3 segments to extend out the miles, of course.

Yeehaw. Worked it out...Is $514 to add PDX both directions to the above original itinerary, Leave Nov 9 and coming back Nov 13. Brings the RDM/EQM to 13.5K base! Down around 3.8c/EQM.

Right. I'm seeing an annomolous return on SAS on FareCompare. It apparently isn't posting the 230.00 fuel surcharges, but I am seeing them on ExpertFlyer.

Perhaps UA misfiled and corrected. The fare I posted wasn't/isn't effective until midnight tonight, which is why I tried the UK site.

That's what originally got me curious.. none of the SAS one's seemed to be bookable.. but then I tripped over these funky UA fares while trying to get to the SAS ones.

I've been watching this for the past two weeks. And the fare for my travel dates just dropped about $70. Expedia has been $5 cheaper than orbitz.

.Bomb can't even price it. They'll give me the LH flight numbers to MUC but they won't give me the LH flight #s on the return to the US.

Orbitz pre-adds the service fee. Doesn't Expedia add the service fee when you finally pay?

Yep.. the key seems to have something to do with pricing LH flights on UA metal, and possibly a different fuel surcharge?

Down to 1.8c/RDM, which is moving into a reasonable category. I've found a couple of true MR's at the $550 range, no overnighting. ( leave Saturday, come back Monday ).
