Arabic T-shirt sparks airport row before boarding jetblue flight

Arabic T-shirt sparks airport row

An architect of Iraqi descent has said he was forced to remove a T-shirt that bore the words "We will not be silent" before boarding a flight at New York.

Raed Jarrar said security officials warned him his clothing was offensive after he checked in for a JetBlue flight to California on 12 August.

Mr Jarrar said he was shocked such an action could be taken in the US.

US transport officials are conducting an inquiry after a complaint from the US Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.

JetBlue said it was also investigating the incident but a spokeswoman said: "We're not clear exactly what happened."

I did, and I browsed through the topics for the last month as well (which on this forum is less than 2 pages). Can you tell me where this was posted?

Uhh... not posted on the jetBlue fourm... you must be thinking of the middle eastern pilot that was sorta offered a job by jetBlue than was quickly taken back because he was a "security risk"

I think you're looking for: Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam it would take a super geeky TSA agent to know what that saids and then freak out about it... eventhough it's written in Klingon..

Now posted on MSNBC as well. Quote from this article:

One official told him, Going to an airport with a T-shirt in Arabic script is like going to a bank and wearing a T-shirt that says, Im a robber, he said.

Has there been anything that clarified who the various officials were with (airline, airport, or TSA, or someone else), or who was initially bothered by the shirt and started the whole thing?

I heard is was an Al Jazeera reporter or maybe one from the New York Times; it's hard to tell! Whoever triggered it, it's a good story.
