To qualify for the African Airpass does you need to have a paid *A Intercontinental ticket into Africa or will a *A award booking suffice? The rules appear to only require a *A flight with no mention of whether it must be a paid ticket or not.

Thanks,

Unfortunately not valid with a reward ricket. Passenger must purchase a return ticket as per application paragraph of rules -
"- FARES ONLY AVAILABLE TO PAX RESIDING OUTSIDE
AFRICA AND WHO HAVE PURCHASED AN
INTERCONTINENTAL RETURN TICKET ON ANY STAR
ALLIANCE PARTNER PRIOR TO ARRIVAL IN SOUTH
AFRICA."

To further clarify, there is a NOTE at the bottom of the paragraph that reads -
"NOTE:
- THE AIRPASS IS NOT TO BE SOLD IN CONJUCTION
WITH BONUS PROGRAMM TICKETS/OTHER AWARD/ID/AD
OR FREE TICKETS."
