Mogensen:

If you speak Arabic, can you give us a phoentic English spelling of what they're saying please?

I am really amazed, this "khabbardar ekhaddar!!" (or similar) is our favourite too and I have used it often in talks with friends.

Weird, I do the same!

Anyone also notice in the safety video, the Arabic version has a stereotypical Middle Eastern man (dark hair, bushy moustache) doing the lifevest demo, whereas the English version has a beautiful full-lipped woman? She looks really good blowing the whistel and topping up the air

Cheers,
Rick

I'd love to! How do you get that 3 pronged plug into your player? Do you have a special adaptor?

Lightbulb Post an audio clip of the Arabic announcement!?

I too want to surprise my friends and alarm my colleagues with that phrase!

Here's a challenge: to record it and post an audio clip of the Arabic announcement so that we can all practice it with that distinctive gutteral intonation!

Yeah, I also like the arabic announcement ^

"Ar'raja' rabt al ah'zimate makay" (Please observe the seatbelt sign).

But it seems to me as if they changed the voice recently. When I flew on EK back in 2000, I think there had been a different, more powerful and clear male voice....but maybe it´s just my mistake

I´ll try to record it on my upcoming flights next month

Yea, some other headphones I had bought came with a useful little gadget. It has room for 3 prongs going in to it, and then has 1 prong that goes in to my iPod.

Cheers

looks like we are not the only nuts who love the announcement

Here is a post from a yahoo forum that i subscribe to:

This is a strange one and maybe in wrong place but here goes anyway I
hope someone can help. I use Emirates for trips from the UK to Japan.
On a recent trip with a business collegue every time they put
the "please fasten your seatbelt" recording he was hysterical when it
was played in what I presume in Arabic, I must admit it does sound
funny.

I am wanting to get a recording of this so he can use it as his
ringtone, I have tried Emirates and even though I have all the points
and top gold card thing ETC they are not bothered about helping. I am
travelling again with Emirates but not whilst June and I wanted to try
and sort it before then.

If anyone either passenger or crew can e-mail me a recording of the guy
saying "please fasten your seatbelts" in Arabic I would be most
grateful. My e-mail is XXXX
Thanks XXXXX.
Cheers

Guys, I finally did it - enjoy the clip

By the way: Just returned from a trip to SIN and DXB. Onboard service in Y pretty good as always, however, ground service at DXB airport is getting worse. The lounges are totally overcrowded, no place to sit down. The staff at the lounge reception seem to have lost control over those coming in (a lot of people seem to creep in without an invitation). No cutlery available, dirty toilets etc.
Whilst the lounge next to gate 8 was acceptable, the one between gates 9 & 11 appeared like a cowshed.

I hope things will improve when the new all EK terminal 3 is finished.

My question is, who is a better airline in business class, BA or Emirates? I never flew any of them.

Thanks.
I just finished a HKG-NBO R/T in J and I'm not sure I agree with some of the comments above. I found the A330 and A340 seats to be ridiculously narrow (not much better than Y on many other carriers, but with a bit more space between the seats) and the seat pitch on my 77W, at 44", to be ludicrous when combined with the ability of the seat in front of you to recline into your lap. The new and old CW products on BA are far superior to any of these choices. IFE is about the same, depending on your taste. For a "westerner" a lot of the choices won't be of much interest, so they don't do you much good. That is, unless you want to hear the channel that recites the Koran. The food on EK I found to be pretty inconsistent. My DXB-HKG flight was excellent, the rest were OK but nothing special. BA is more consistent, not up to the standard of the best meal I had but much better than the others.

If you are going to be in any of the old J products on EK, I'd avoid it and go for BA. The 777s and A330s/340s are actually fairly uncomfortable, in very different ways but in all case unacceptable. I've had more comfortable flights in domestic F on UA 757s, which is pathetic. If you're in the new J cabins, they sound like they're quite nice.

Every time I heard it I thought it sounded like Borat.

Just a clarification - all 77Ws have a minimum of 55" pitch. The B777-300s, which are currently being refitted to prove lie-flat seats, are the ones with a 46" - 48" pitch.

Personally I don't find the seats narrow at all, but I agree that they are not ideal.

Strongly disagree here. I know many people who find BA's seats to be cramped, and hence avoid them in favour of EK on the DXB-LHR-DXB run. I personally think BA is much better than EK, but it depends on the person. However, with that being said, I found BA's IFE atrocious. The sound quality was awful, the selection poor and the screen too small.

All 777s (777-300ER, 777-200, new 777-300s) except the old 777s have been reconfigured to provide better saeating an ICE.

Cheers
