Perks w/ 1K - SPG Gold, Sixt Platinum, etc.
I got my unsolicited SPG Gold card about six months ago and don't use it that often. Thanks to a post here in FT, I found that I could get Sixt Platinum simply by asking for it (being a 1K, that is). It just came in the mail and I'm planning on using it in my upcoming trips to Europe.
The question is.... would there a hotel chain that give "Platinum" status (read: automatic upgrades to the best available room) to 1K members just by asking? I use Priceline for hotels and would prefer spending $60 a night in a 4-star hotel as opposed to $200 a night for a so-called "discount rate" offered by hotel chains, off of the $500 "rack rate" which nobody in the right mind would pay. My mother is SPG Platinum and she got to enjoy a 1,800 square foot room with two fireplaces in London on a regular £175 room rate. I think that was for a few days.

I made 1k (lite) in 2004 but never received SPG Gold status (am currently a common member).

I have been HH gold since they comped me from AA PLT in Dec 2002! Will finally expire this April. Also got starwood gold out of AA PLT. Nothing from 1K so far.

My (earned) SPG gold card expires end Feb. Anyone know to whom I might request this 1K offer?
I saw a few reports of it, but it did not seem 1K wide?

I had a comped SPG Gold offer a couple years ago thanks to my status on AA, but didn't take up the offer as I was then a Marriott & Hilton stayer. I don't recall ever seeing anything for comped hotel status due to my 1K.
