Credit cards earning QF points

The weekend Australian (17 July) had a nice summary table of credit cards you can earn QF points on, their crediting rate and annual fees.

Here is an extract from the article.

Amex Rewards Maximiser $1=1.5 QF points, $203 pa fee

The next ones are all $1=1 QF points and subject to points cap (except where noted).

Amex no cap, $84 pa fee
Diners no cap, $150 pa fee
CBA Plat no cap, $250 pa fee
Citi Plat 120k pa cap, $250 pa fee

Citi Silver 40k pa cap, $55 pa fee
ANZ FF Gold 2.5k per mth cap, $150 pa fee
ANZ FF Classic 1.5k per mth cap, $95 pa fee

And those less than $1=1 QF points ...

NAB Gold Visa $1.50=1 QF points, 150k pa cap, $121.30 pa fee
CAB Gold $1.50=1 QF points, 100k pa cap, $114 pa fee
CBA Standard $2=1 QF points, 50k pa cap, $59 pa fee
Westpac Altitude $2=1 QF points, no cap, $75 pa fee
Westpac Gold $2=1 QF points, no cap, $125 pa fee

AMEX are still running their 6 month promotion for 1.5 points/$ on their green card. This costs an extra $29/6 mths. It's been renewed once and another renewal may happen soon. It may, however, be the way to get you hooked on the 1.5 points then ask you to go to the maximiser card (at greater cost - of course). I'll wait to see how my letter suggesting incompetence during my recent need for a replacement green card is handled.

I have read this before but it has never been sent to me in a letter and I cannot find it anywhere in the application form or the website.

Where is this officially from?(other than the article)

Not particularly wanting to be a defender of Westpac, but one thing that really annoys me is media inaccuracies. If they're going to say Amex is $1= 1 points, they should also say Westpac Altitude Amex is $1=1 point, with a $120 pa fee ($170 gold).

In reality with the Altitude Gold Amex/Visa combo I've been getting about 90% spend on the Amex, meaning about $1.05= 1 QF point (haven't yet got around to changing to Citibank).

It's in the Rewards Terms and Conditions on the website. As far as I can tell, you have to be logged in to view it (ie there's no way to see it unless you already have a Citibank credit card).

Willyroo, that's an interesting omission. We use the Woolies MC, and, honestly, it seems like a fairly decent card, given the low annual fee, the relatively good exchange rate ($1=1 QF point), and the .25% bonus on Woolies-associated stores. I wonder if the option of earning QF points is still available for new card members, though. I know that about 1 year ago (or slightly longer) some of the rewards changed, and I seem to recall that you could opt for QF points (as opposed to Woolies gift certs), but then your choice would be locked in for good. Or perhaps I'm remembering their debit card program?

As travellers, it is useful for us to know how much each card costs for overseas cash withdrawals - did they talk about this in the article?

For example, the ANZ FF Gold card offers commission-free overseas cash withdrawals, which saves me >A$250 p.a.

The Woolworth's card costs A$4.50 per withdrawal.

Citibank silver costs A$4.00 per withdrawal.

Anyone else thought about this?

Can anyone please tell me what a NAB "Ant" is? I have a NAB Gold Mastercard I never use, and not sure what "Ant" means.

Also same question with "ANZ FF Gold" - I have the ANZ basic Gold I use just to get free travel insurance, (that earns no miles of any kind AFAIK) and an ANZ Qantas Gold that I THOUGHT was now back to only 1 QF point per $A1 spent. Is that one still 1=1? Or is "ANZ FF Gold" a different card again?

Hmmm, no sign of the ANT on the NAB website. My brother has one and informed me of the 2 for 1 deal for the first 12 months. He also said it is fee-free for the first year. Anyone else got more details?

Yeah, the cash withdrawl fees are shockers, but then again I think it's a mug who withdraws cash from their CC account anyway - either here or O/S. What I do is have a debit card that I carry with me linked to eastpac. Cuz of their alliance network thingo they have with various and sundry around the world (eg: Barclays, BA, Paribas, etc) you can usually get a fee free withdrawl from those ATM's. So, I arrive in LHR, go to the Barclay's ATM in T1 on my way out and grab money. Works like a charm....

Yes, and I suggest either to have an overseas bank account, or to make the maximum allowed withdrawal each time from your Australian account. Could be up to Aussie dollar 1,000 equivalent, depending on what your own bank and the particular overseas ATM allow (and your own account balance of course).
