An update: AC dropping agent online commissions to zero effective 9 January 2006. AC lurkers listening?
BTW, we received an email from Canada's other major airline noting they have and will continue to support TA's by leaving all commissions to all destinations uncapped at 9%! ^

Haven't seen any TA's close shop either.
So what gives with that,if times are so tough?

ACTA condemns Air Canada move to discontinue its Cash Reward Programs
http://www.traveldailynews.com/new.a...category_id=53
Michael Merrithew, Chair of the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA), stated: “It is clear Air Canada does not want to recognize the value of travel agents and is expecting them to work on its behalf for no base compensation. By further eliminating travel agency cash rewards for booking air tickets, the carrier is trying to shift all distribution costs to the consumer.”

9% seems like a pretty heavy cost to bare if others are not playing unless there are benefits like increased bookings to offset the extra cost.

So you should now be free to sell us throwaway tickets etc., since you are no longer under contractual obligation to enforce their rules, right?

Unfortunately, my chain and likely others will encourage TA's to use GDS in place of AC online, leaving us with the same route structure limitations. But nice thought.
