Travel Meet-up Thread - 2016


Welcome to the British Airways Flyertalk Travel Meet-up Thread. Ladies and gentlemen of FT: the lounge guesting thread was taken down a few weeks ago, and the Moderators and Ambassadors have been taking in feedback as to how best go forward from here - our apologies for the delay in getting this out to you but we need to try to get it right. Let's not have a re-debate on the old thread, it's gone now, and I suspect that any commentary on that topic will be removed. Some more background is below, but here are the simple new rules for this thread:

1) Use this thread to mention you will be travelling through an airport such as LHR T5 on a given time and date. You can also mention non airport locations if you wish. A brief sentence or two will do, but please use this wiki format:
5-May-2016 / 1700-1900 / LHR T5 landside / corporate-wage-slave / May be late arriving due to connections

2) Do NOT mention lounge guesting, hosting or requesting in the wiki or thread. Just say you'll be (e.g.) airside at T5 - you can arrange the meeting point via Private Message. And please don't use PM to solicit a lounge invitation either!

3) Edit the wiki entry if you can, but if you cannot edit it one of the many volunteers here will happily do it for you, just post your information below in the above format, be sure to include date, time and location. You can edit wikis after 90 days and 90 posts.

4) Use Private Messages to fix arrangements and rendez-vous location. One PM to the person mentioned in the wiki only, please, no repeats and definitely no hassling. If you don't get a reply, then that's life, not everyone has the time to attend to FT matters immediately, so try a PM to someone else instead.

5) Every so often we may well delete all posts, so that just the wiki and header information will remain. So don't regard your posts as permanent.

By way of background: The aspect of the previous thread that met with universal approval was the concept of meeting up with fellow Flyertalkers when travelling. That aspect of fellowship is something we are keen to maintain, so we are now launching this travel meet-up thread, where you can arrangement meetings by Private Message with other people at airports, and possibly elsewhere too.

The key change is this is a meet-up thread, not a guesting or request for guesting arrangement - this thread is not for soliciting or offering lounge access. This means anyone - of any frequent flyer status - or none - or in any cabin - can list their travel, exchange Private Messages (PM) with anyone else travelling at the same time, and it's up to these travellers to sort out logistics. Threads of this sort which are posted elsewhere in the BA forum will either be moved here or deleted, depending on content.

The post below gives some ideas on suitable meeting points relevant to BA's network. By all means suggest other locations, this will evolve over time, no doubt. It's just a set of suggestions to help with your PMs.

Wikis are not always visible on mobile devices, but can be seen on the full site / PC version. If you have any queries about the background to this thread, feel free to reach out to a Moderator or Ambassador by PM.

Meet-up location suggestions

Further to the post above, this is a living repository of information for good places to meet at airports and other locations relevant to BA's network. By all means make suggestions of suitable locations. This is to help any PMs relating to meet-up, but it's entirely up to you where you meet. This post is looking a bit thin at the moment but we will work to develop it over time.

LHR T5
Airside: Pilot's Restaurant by Gate A20: Neither cheap nor expensive, popular with crew. South end of T5.
Airside: Seating area by Gate A7: Usually a quiet spot despite being near the children's play area. North end of T5
Landside: Carlucccios, towards North.

LHR T3
Airside: Prêt à Manger

LCY
Airside: Seats in front of Boots towards the window

LGW North
Airside: Seats under the escalator by London News Company towards gate 45.

Central London:
Punch and Judy pub - Covent Gardens, though often crowded

NCL: The Beer Room in the main departure area

EDI: Wetherspoons Sir Walter Scott by gate 12

It's great that this thread is up and running, I've had some very pleasant meet-ups in the past and look forward to more in the future. Thanks to all those who put the effort in to create and manage this resource ^

EDIT : I've added one of my future travel dates to be the first person to add to the wiki will add more soon!

^ Nice to see this here. I was in GF yesterday and feeling a bit lonely wondering if there were any other FT'ers around. I didn't really want to disturb the couple of people I thought might be around with a PM on the off-chance they were in T5.

My suggestion for a couple of good places

ZRH
Airside: Sprüngli - Good coffee and tea, and tasty desserts just after duty free and security on the upper floor

SEA
Airside: Anthony's Homeport - Great seafood and beers in the main terminal, nice view of the runway

I've added the day of the week to the wiki listings - this should reduce the amount of brain power needed when associating the dates, particularly when viewing the list during the days close to departure. I hope that makes sense

I actually think it's easier to view with out the day. Just the number.

When this list gets big like before it's much easier to just find the month. And then scroll down through the dates. You leave a space between the dates for easier viewing.

It also makes editing the wiki much easier when there is over 100 entries.

I went ahead and changed it to 2016 please change it back if it is actually supposed to be 2017 and move it to the 2017 subheader.
