Milwaukee 48-55-3490 => personal item
Just ordered a Milwaukee 48-55-3490. Perfect 9 x 10 x 17. $28 delivered.

Finally got my bag. It's well built for the price and heavy-duty. Pretty heavy too: about 2-1/4# or one kg. That's almost 50% more than the Tom Bihn 1050d equivalent.
It's near optimum for United max personal item volume. The bag has a triangular cross section empty becoming a flat bottom with a hoop shape above when filled. One cavernous compartment with many small pockets on the inside perimeter and outside ends. Should be United-legal even when stuffed.
Zero snob appeal will satisfy the contrarian stylist . I'll test it traveling, but it looks like a great gym bag too.
Don't forget, it's made in Milwaukee.....China.
