The cheerful FA escorted me to my seat, handed me a glass of Dom Perignon 2000 and gave me back my boarding pass. Shortly after, she came to give me to menu. She noted that she had my book the cook onboard (Lobster thermidor) but I was still welcome to try any of the other entrees She offered to serve me both the international selection AND kyo-kaiseki ^ I accepted I had a 20 course tasting menu ^ It was AWESOME! I was also very excited to see caviar being offered as the appetiser The FA offered a shot of vodka to go with my caviar. I gladly accepted the offer After the amazing meal service, I reclined, listened to some music via AOD, and had a glass of porto. Then, I went into the lavatory to slip on the Givenchy pajamas and refreshed with Ferragamo amenity provided by the FA . After I came out, my seat was turned down with a pad, duvet, and large pillows, and a bottle of water.

I woke up during the middle of the night. The moment I sat up, one of the FAs came over to hand me another bottle of water and a ben and jerry ice cream (were they watching me sleep? ^). I took the water and went back snoozing. Before I knew it, we were almost at Tokyo Narita and a light meal was served.

It was one of the best flights I've ever taken. The service was amazing and the amenities were exceptional. Singapore Airlines is truly legendary.

This flight was completely full (where as my LAX-SIN flight was filled with less than a handfull of people). The FAs were trying very hard but service suffered as a result of a full cabin. Still, I had an enjoyable flight. Another set of PJs and amenity kit were provided . I didn't have much of an appetite so I only had a bit of each item on the menu and went to bed shortly after the meal service. I'll omit the menu this time since the menu was similar that on LAX-NRT except it's a full dinner service.

Service was, again, wonderful on SQ. The FA escorted me to my seat, literally stood there with my boarding pass for 5 minutes until I settled into my seat, handed me my boarding pass, a blanket, and a glass of Dom Perignon ^

The seat, although a regional product, was surprising very comfortable. It had a large monitor with AVOD. The food was also very good for such a short flight. I ordered a simplified version of kyo-kaiseki. I enjoyed it very much. The regular menu:

LIGHT MEAL

appetisers
Pan seared scallops with Hummus, tomato salso and basil pesto

main course
Sirloin in natural jus, spinach custard, baby carrot and potato puree

Famous Singappore Chicken Rice
Fragrant poached chicken with pandan flavoured rice, served with ginger, soya and chilli sauce
A renowned favourite in Singapore

Pan roasted perch with panchetta sered with coulis of vine ripened tomato, carrots and herb couscous

fresh fruit
A selection of fresh fruit

from the bakery
Oven fresh rolls

with a choice of extra virgin olive oil or butter
Garlic bread

I decided to give LX a try to really decide for myself: which is better, SQ or LX? Well, LX does have a couple of advantages over SQ: fully lie flat seat + amenity kit. However, I found their food to be pretty inedible. I'm sure the meal service on the continuing flight to ZRH is better. However, I was pretty disappointed. Also, the meal service took up the entire flight, so I didn't really have time to try to lie flat position. So, the lie flat seat didn't really matter in the end. Also, LX F seemed to be a little beaten up. My monitor didn't work even after resetting. The seats seemed to be falling apart as well. The service, on the other hand, was very good. One interesting thing to note. I am *G and I know LH/LX lists the status on their pax manifest. There were only 3 pax in F cabin. One HON sitting in 2F across the plane, one unknown passenger sitting in 2G center, and me (*G). The HON was obviously a VIP and he had someone escorted him through gate and to the plane. So, upon boarding, the purser shook my hand and personally escorted me to my seat ^ then went over to HON to chat with him. Throughout the flight, he would come by periodically to see if I was enjoying myself. When the only FA was taking meal orders, she would go to the HON first, then ran across the plane to me at 2A, even though 2G pax was directly next to 2F. It was the same during meal service. The FA would served HON/2F first, ran over to me for refills, etc, and kind of blatanly ignored 2G!!!! And, at the end of the flight, the purser came to shake my hand and thanked me for flying LX, and went over to 2F, and shook the HONs hand, and then walked away!!! He blatantly ignored 2G. I thought that was a bit strange as I would be really offended if I were 2G. Nevertheless, they were nice to me, so ^

In any event, I thought the Nespresso (LUV them) was nice on LX, but SQ also offers premium coffee like blue mountain in espresso format. Since its only a short flight, with Dom Perignon and Book the Cook option and slightly better service, I prefer SQ over LX. However, LX is still very good and you would be very happy with either airline.

To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect for the UA flight. Some people seem to hate UA F service. However, in my experience, I've always had good experiences in UA int'l F, including this one. I was expecting F to be full, but it wasn't. There were actually 3 empty seats. A HNL based purser along with a NRT based FA served the F cabin. Both provided excellent service. The purser was very good. He was very accommodating. He came to check on each passeger very often to make sure everyone was okay. I don't know if this was the norm after the "meal anytime enhancement" but he served us meals whenever we wanted without being intrusive. Prior to arrival, instead of waking everyone up to serve breakfast, he actually brought over breakfast to those who were awake. I didn't hear any noises. I woke up when we were over Monterey and he came over and asked me if I would like to have breakfast. ^ I didn't realize everyone already had food to eat and we were already in LA! It was fantastic. There's something about UA F suite. I actually sleep better in them than in SQ F seats! Another great flight to end the trip!

I was actually rather impressed with the meal. It was acceptable for international F. I mean, it's no SQ, but very good for an US airline:

Menu

appetizers
Shrimp and scallop potsticker and eggplant, prosciutto, goat cheese wrap with roasted red pepper and chilled pickled vegetables

soup
creamy curry apple soup

salad
A combination of mesclun mix and romaine with sliced radishes, yellow bell pepper and crisp croutons

Served with your choice of dressing:
Roquefort or Asian-style Vinaigrette

main course
Pan-seared filet mignon with mozarrella cheese and Madeira sauce

Pumpkin mashed potatoes and chunky vegetable medley

Pecan-crusted chicken with paprika mushroom cream sauce
Vegetable mushroom paella and sauteed green beans with onions

Poaches sea bass with spicy yuzu sauce
Cha-soba and carrots with shiitake mushrooms

Washoku zen selection

Appetizers of snapper sushi, simmered shrimp, lightly salted flounder wrapped in seaweed, chicken in cod egg roll, baby bamboo with dried fish flakes, beed sirloin with Hapanese dressing, maitake mushroom and cha-soba noodles topped with simmered shimeji mushrooms
A main course of salmon topped with chestnut paste and grilled eringi mushroom, chestnut, green beans and carrot flower
served with steamed rice and Japanese pickled vegetables
served with green tea

dessert
Baskin Robbins

ice cream with sundae toppings

Cheese selection sered with red grapes and crackers

Danish Blue - known as the world's best blue: versatile, semi-soft; milder than roquefort

Colby Jack - mixture of colby and jack cheese with a blend of yellow-orange and ivory cheese which prodce a marbled effect, milder than cheddar with a softer, springier texture

Camembert - white downy rind with a smooth creamy texture

Prior to Arrival
breakfast

Gouda potato and onion omelette with oven-roasted tomato sauce

Pork link sausage

Fresh seasonal fruit plate with creamy yogurt

Very nice!! Great light balance for photos taken inside an aircraft, which aren't exactly ideal for photography.

These photos could easily be used by SQ on their own web site.
