Let's Eat! - 2008 Business Class (Domestic and International) Edition

A New Year and time for a New Thread on UA's Business Class meal service.

With a nod to warreng24, the following reference for UA Business Class meal service:

Generally speaking, domestic flights with food service in Business Class can be broken down into two types:
1) p.s. flights
2) Mainline flights over 2.5 hours

1) P.S. flights: Passengers in Business Class can expect a meal to be served for all non-redeye flights. Redeye flights can expect a fruit & cheese plate.

2) Domestic mainline flights over 2.5 hours: Passengers in Business Class can expect meals according to the following scheduled flight departure times:[list][*]0500 - 1000 Breakfast[*]1001 - 1059 No Meal Service[*]1100 - 1300 Lunch[*]1301 - 1559 No Meal Service[*]1600 - 1900 Dinner[*]1901 - 0459 No Meal Service[/list

Business Class passengers on domestic United Airlines flights other then p.s. with durations under 2.5 hours in length will receive the "gold bag" of pre-packaged mixed nuts.

The one for Domestic and International First Class meals can be found at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8979767

I flew IAD-LHR in C the other night. Basically the same menu as it's been the last two months, and it is gross. I don't enjoy pork (other than in the form of harm, proscuitto, or bacon), and I think that's a much less appreciated main option than beef; plus all the Charlie Trotter's I've tried have been gross. Next, the chicken is in a curry sauce. Sure, I love curry just as much as the next guy, I had Indian food for dinner last night, but do you really want to be doing that to people on a plane? For starters, the smell is pretty gross, and secondly it can really test out the methane-absorption qualities of the UA seat. Also, UA pasta is gross, period, so that rules that out. I just skipped dinner. Actually, I had a bit of sushi beforehand at IAD (thank God for that thread), and it was really quite decent, both in taste and price.

I'd be interested in this as well and also FRA-IAD. Have both coming up soon. Anything changed on these routes lately? I flew both in November 2007.

UA 903, IAD-DEN, 1730 departure, 1/21/08

Date traveled: 21 JAN 2008
Flight Number: 903 (IAD-DEN)
Aircraft Type: B777-200
Class of Service: C (Domestic)
Mealtime: Dinner

NO pre-departure beverage service.

Drinks and nuts served after takeoff, about 30 minutes into the flight. Warm moist towelette followed.

Dinner Choices
Hot sandwich with turkey, pastrami and cheese. Served on single tray with roasted potatoes in dish with sandwich. Accompanied by key-lime pie.

Cheese tortellini in tomato sauce. Accompanied by a slice of key-lime pie and a roll with butter.

I had the cheese tortellini. Something about a sandwich on a "dinner" flight just doesn't sit right with me. The tortellini was excellent, though I know others are not fans of it. The sandwich, at least in the mini-cabin, seemed to be the popular choice on this flight. The tortellini came with a roll with butter, while the sandwich did not.

Drinks were refilled often throughout flight by great crew. Service was slow to get started, but once it got started, it was great. My red-wine was re-filled several times without having to ask.
