QANTAS first class JFK-LAX on QF 108

This is the first leg of the One World Explorer ticket in first...

I arrived at terminal 7 where Qantas has their daily flight to SYD via LAX. The flight leaves at 7:10 PM and I arrived at terminal 7 at about 4 PM. Terminal 7 has CX, BA, UA and IB flights ticketing. Quite busy at this time of day. There was a separate QF first class check in. The entire check in process and clearing of security took less than 5 minutes. Up the escalator to the BA terraces lounge where there is a first class section to the left of the check in area.

The BA first class lounge is actually quite nice.. Snacks included shrimp salada with thai spices wrapped in a flour torilla, cucumber sandwiches, chips, cheeses, fruits, and a full bar including Heidseick Monopole Champagne and no less than 3 reds and 3 white wines.. Sorry I do not remember names. No free WiFi however. But the ambience is very relaxing and very nice to have a glass of champagne while just waiting for boarding to begin.

Boarding began promptly at 6:30PM. I was in 1K with only 9 people in first this evening. No sooner had I sat down than I was offered a glass of Heidsieck Blanc de Millenaires champagne.. Excellent drink offered with almonds or olives.. PJs were distributed as well as the QF amenity kit. Full international service for a domestic flight... While waiting for departure I perused the IFE. There is an incredible choice of AVOD movies and TV. I actually chose SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER which I had not seen in years. I forgot how great Travolta was in that role. Great score as well.. Menus were handed out. Here is the transcript...

Included goat cheese tarts as well as smoked duck....

Grosset Caia Cabernet Merlot 2004

DESSERT WINE

As you can tell the food was excellent. Too bad that the only way to take this flight is if you are on your way to OZ.. It is not sold by QF or AA as a one way ticket without an onward Australian journey... But what a great experience....

Where you allowed to fly JFK-LAX without immediately flying out of the country? If so, that's very interesting. Reports in the OneWorld forum are that Qantas does not allow local traffic on this flight.

I believe it is fine if you are booked onto the LAX-SYD flights as part or the RTW ticket.

I actually will be flying the trans pacific portion this week. Before I ticketed this itinerary I made sure that the JFK-LAX could be taken on QF with a long stop in LAX and then the trans pacific portion ( LAX-MEL ) this week. It was OK by the AA RTW desk.. Actually I think that the QF transcon is one of the finest experiences I have had since flying the TWA 747 trans con OH so many years ago....

Yes - it doesn't need to be an immediate connection, but you must have a QF flight transpac from LAX (even after a stopover). Our stopover was 9 months

not but a good guess.

Actually mini-alect's gestation spanned the first part of a DONE4 and she has an INF BP for CX and QF even though she was still....well gestating. She "finished off" in LAX and her first trip was the next leg of that particular DONE4 to SJD. It was the DONE4 after that when we had 9 months between our transpac and flight to JFk for Xmas.
