I was visiting HK with a good buddy of mine, and we decided on a side trip to Bangkok at the last second. I had just enough Avios for the outbound. But EK, UL, and EJ were pretty expensive even in Economy at that point. Thai Air Asia, was just $45 a head with assigned seats and baggage. Truthfully, it really wasn't that bad, and I really can't complain about the price.
Well $45 is hard to beat but still, LCC
Finally glad to go in there for once.
Guess I'm reasonably loyal to Oneworld and Star Alliance.
That leaves the Plaza Premium Lounges, and the new HKG Skyteam lounge I haven't done.
I've gone through most of the HKG lounges, this EK was a big exception.
It's good for an outport but of course the CX F lounge and even the QF lounge is better than this one.
I almost forgot, haven't done the new CNAC "China National Aviation Corporation" Lounge at Gate 25.
Not sure why I would want to go there though since I would be needing to fly to Mainland to access that and ugh...
They probably would be try to put the "New Great Wall of China" in there too

Great start to this report. Excellent pics and classic ShF humour with Papa and Mama.
Loved her dropping her rollaboard and telling Papa “You can take this to Bangkok, I’ll just take the Tote Bag”.
So how do you really feel about Mainlanders?

The Mama rollaboard actually was a good idea since she was taking the BTS and we were taking a cab since we were late.
I was just like, Ma, make up your mind already
Mainlanders, ugh...
There are reasons for those bi-monthly trips to Japan you know, it's to keep some sanity in a civilized world. @:-)
Like Trump would suggest, build a wall! @:-)
In reality, that would be outright impossible with the China-HK High Speed Rail
The next HKG debate has become how to deal
A) Immigration clearance at where? Shenzhen or HKG?
Mainland Officers in HKG?
Who's willing to risk political suicide over that? @:-)
B) Who's paying for the bill?
Project has now been delayed by 3 yrs and now over 20.3 Billion HKD overbudget
That's around 2.62 Billion USD for our American friends
And to why some will say, why they get treated with Prejudice and Contempt?
What you dish out is what you sow and they can act like Hicks out there.
And diapers were invented over 120 yrs ago
Thanks for reading djjaguar64, How big of a difference except for the seat between F and J? Feel you got your money's worth?

Part 3 – A Newer Emirates Airbus 380-800 Business Seat? BKK – HKG
After a weekend in Bangkok, it was finally time to head home.
Once again I would be Papa-sitting, while Mama gets a break and goes flying MH J BKK – KUL – HKG.
Hey we need every miles we can count
Nov 30, 2015 – Monday
EK 384 BKK – HKG 1:45pm – 5:30pm (388/J)
After enjoying another breakfast with Mama at the Club Lounge at 7am, it was time to bid her farewell while she gets an off day.
And just like the outbound, she’s left her rollaboard along with us.
Whomever on her flight or her check-in must find it hilarious, a tiny lady checking in with nothing but a backpack stuffed with a Wallet, Passport and IPAD stuff with Korean Drama LOL
In the meanwhile, I took some business calls in the morning before sending Papa on his own to the Grand Club for breakfast, then finally leaving the Grand Hyatt at 9:45am.
This time around, it was BTS then Airport Rail link back to Suvarnabhumi arriving around 10:55am.
Emirates Business Class Check-In
Check-In was done quickly once again with boarding pass re-print, and the agent once again gave us the usual Premium Pass.
And since we were reasonably early, we decided to save the Premium Pass for another rainy day.
You can never have enough Bangkok Premium Pass in the House
General Security was quickly done in 5 mins, sadly exit immigration took about 20 mins
Luckily Papa has no interest in Duty-Free and we quickly went down to Gate Level to avoid all the Mainlanders crashing into each other for Duty Free items.
Emirates Lounge is right across the walkway from the Japan Airlines Lounge, near Gate D8 which I always seem to find myself in.
But to all new lounge visited, it’s photo galore time…
BKK Emirates Lounge
Restaurant Area
*Sadly the Hot Food wasn’t of my appetite, but Prawn Appetizer, Cheesecake and Crème Brulee were very tasty
Office Area
Side Service Bar Area
And near the back, there was a Prayer Room and showers located inside the Washroom.
As an Outport lounge, overall B- grade.
Seating – Comfy Sofa seats, space was good for this Tag Service. Space likely to be an issue for the 1-2am flights
Food – Likewise as HKG Lounge, Decent Food and Alcohol Selection, and still like their Cold Food more.
Internet – Fast Enough to load Youtubes video, send emails with Big attachments
Power Outlets – There are many in the sofa area in the Middle of the lounge, but didn’t scoop around the rest of the lounge to test this theory.
Showers – Once again, great to see at Outports

Aisle leaning Business Class Seat
*The slightly newer version gains you that extra space between the seat and the window cabinet.
Not a bad place for a Laptop bag or shoes midflight
Seat Console and Storage Space
*You’ve lost the storage space between the seat and the console in the old seat, but all the chargers are in a much better placement.
*The bar you can reach for getting up was also removed.
Not so good for whomever is sitting infront of Papa SHF since he always pull on the person’s seatback to get up.
Entertainment Screen
*Better resolution
Ottoman
*Also seems to have expand ever slightly
The Emirates Tablet
Swear it’s a gimmick I don’t understand all that well.
Seat Control
Dining Table
*Slide out from in front of you instead of trying to take out your Ribs or Stomach
Window Storage Cabinet
Pre-Departure Beverage, Moet & Chandon Brut Imperial
*I went for Champagne while having to cut off Papa with the juices LOL
Dad, Champagne or Water, less sugar please
And Hot Towel at the start of the flight
My usual commuting plane, bahaha Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737-800
*22 flights on Malaysia Airlines in 2015
2 Hours 15 Minutes Flight Time to Hong Kong
Boarding was completed by 1:30pm, sadly one person decided to throwaway her DXB – HKG and ditched at BKK so that took 14 mins to locate her checked bag.
Door were closed at 1:44pm and EK 384 pushed back at 1:49pm.

*Gratin was good, can’t say so for the Fillet however
And after doing 5 Emirates flight, kinda wanted to do the Instant Noodles just to see how it is.
*It’s an Singaporean Kind
And after the Meal Service, there were 1 Hour left on the flight
Decided to check out the bar, I haven’t had the luck of photographing the Bar since it was always packed.
Luckily today’s 30% load in Business makes things a bit easier
Emirates Airbus 380-800 Premium Class Bar
Leaves you shocked, what kind of F&B Budget does EK use?
The Main Meal + all the extra finger bites + Alcohol, on a 2 Hr 15 Min flight.
Jesus!
Well while I wasn’t in a drinking mode, I did take some light bites to enjoy back at the seat.
With very limited time left, I just scroll through Emirate’s reading material in lieu of other entertainment option.

The Emirate’s Fleet
*With my loyalty to Oneworld and Fallback option on Star Alliance.
Hard to imagine flying too much Emirates when I would only be crediting to Alaska.
The Emirate’s Network
*Got a long while to wait before I will do too much of the Indian Sub-Continent or Africa.
Probably could do 100 Countries without those 2 Regions
Soon after, I passed out about 30 mins before landing into HKG.
And soon came into Hong Kong ATC around 5:05pm HKG time
One lingering problem that seems to be popping up in HKG, ATC Flow Control, so time to do some loops over the South China Sea.
Time to enjoy the Sunset instead
About a 20 minute hold before being release and sent to the approach for Runway 25R.
*Great, Runway 25 means Southerly winds which means HKG is still warm, uh…
Outside temperature was 24C.
There are things to like about the 380, and things you don’t.
Taking outside photo is not one of them
Finally Home, landing at 5:37pm
And couple minutes later were parked at Gate 64, one of the 380-capable gates at HKG.
Normally for myself, it would take me around 12 minutes from Gate 64 to curbside.
Sadly with the Old man in tow, hopefully double the time will do.
But right off the jetbridge were several HKG Immigration agents waiting for doc check.
I swear Emirates must have some High Risk profile since both times flying EK into HKG resulted in doc check.
This time around, the agents luckily were doing random selection.
And SHF wasn’t profiled like he was in Oceania back in Oct, I swear the Aussie and the Kiwis must have killed 1000 Kangaroos in a previous life especially with 4 randoms in a week.
Heading home on the bus took around 90 mins since it was rush hour. I decided to take the slower bus that required no transfers.
Hey, getting home on 18 HKD/2.3 USD is cheap and even Papa SHF who lambasted the slow service will have to agree.
Until Next time on another SHF Adventure
Once again, Thanks Everyone for Reading and Commenting

I have to say, we paid, about C$700 each, this was 4 years ago. The difference for me was the cabin itself, the J cabin is just too crowded. Food was great, if I am not wrong we were also served caviar. And I made sure I made them open both the DOM & the Moet. It was a great flight.

To be honest with all the MH ex-BKK sales, they should rename a 737 ShF... You've spent way to much time on those birds... Hehe

This was a great and enjoyable read! Thanks for posting With all that has been happening, I barely have time for anything, but glad I took the time to read it! Looking forward to the next one!

4 Years ago, 700 CAD is worth a bit more especially since the value in the last 12 month went down the drain.
22 MH flights in 2015 and so far 10 MH flights in 2016.
I barely have any time for anything either.
Certainly hard enough to find time to write any TR for that matter

THanks for posting your very enjoyable TR, how come with both lounge photos there were no pax, what did you do with them all. That food looked good on EK business, and all those fantastic snacks at the bar. Never done EK, but someday will have to try it out. Thanks for sharing.
