Red Wine
2008 Chateau La Garde, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, France
From a fine 50-hectare estate on the famous gravelly soils of Pessac-Leognan where the rich fruit of the Merlot grape dominates the firmer backbone of Cabernet Sauvignon, with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to add aroma and grip, the hand-harvested, oak-aged La Garde's deep ruby colour leads to aromas of blackberry and blueberry and an impressive freshness and depth of fruit on the palate. The 2008 vintage shows all the elegance for which the red wines of Bordeaux are famous.
or
2008 Chateau Preuillac Cru Bourgeois Medoc, Bordeaux, France
Established in 1869 on sandy-gravelly soil to the north of Bordeaux's famous Medoc region, Chateau Preuillac produces classically elegant wines from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet grapes. 2008 was a good vintage which is now showing very well indeed. This wine won a Gold Medal at the Concours Generale de Bruxelles in 2009.
2010 St Hallet Faith Shiraz, Barossa, Australia
The Barossa Valley in South Australia is synonymous with Shiraz, and is internationally famous for full-flavoured reds with distinctive spicy mocca characters and soft ripe tannins. Champagne
Dom Perignon 2003
Named after the monk in charge of the cellars at the Abbey of Hautvilliers at the end of the 17th century who is credited with having "invented" Champagne, Cuvee Dom Perignon has an almost mystical reputation. According to the brilliant winemaker-in-chief Richard Geoffroy, quality is based on harmony, a perfect blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes where nothing is lost and everything comes together. The 2003 was a heatwave vintage in Champagne which added generosity to Dom Perignon's classical elegance.
Krug Grande Cuvee
Founded in Reims in 1843, the House of Krug is now managed by the 5th and 6th generations of the Krug family. Rigorous selection and care go into every detail of the "multi-vintage" Grande Cuvee, which offers a magical combination of aromatic complexity, power and finesse with a long, lingering finish. Krug is the ultimate experience in Champagne.
White Wine
2011 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand
Cloudy Bay is arguably New Zealand's most famous winery. Since its first vintage in 1986, Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc has excited wine drinkers the world over with its racy finish and zingy flavours and well deserves its cult status. Sauvignon Blanc grown in Marlborough in the South Island has a highly distinctive wine style and has played a major role in establishing New Zealand on the international wine stage.
2007 Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons William Fevre
The most prestigious vineyards in this famous appellation are all clustered around the historic town of Chablis in northern Burgundy, where only Chardonnay vines may be planted on the chalky clay and limestone soil to produce these wines of pronounced floral fruit, with hints of apple on the palate with a refreshing mineral finish. 2007 was an excellant vintage for Chablis.
or
2009 Domaine William Fevre Fourchaume, Chablis Premier Cru, France
One of France's most famous wine regions, Chablis produces the most classic white Burgundies from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown on a chalky soil that brings a floral raciness to the wine. The Premier Cru "Fourchaume" lies just west of the Grands Crus of Chablis to produce wines with a distinctive elegance and length of flavour, particularly in an excellant vintage like 2009.
Red Wine
2007 Chateau Rauzan-Segla, Margaux, France
Classified as a "Second Growth" in 1855, second only to Chateau Margaux itself, the 51 hectare Rauzan-Segla estate has maintained this ranking across three centuries. Now under the meticulous ownership of the Wertheimer family, better known for their Chanel fashion brand, no effort is spared to make the best wine possible. 2007 is a lovely vintage with fragrance on the nose and fine texture on the palate, showing to perfection the depth and character from Rauzan-Segla's vineyards with the hallmark elegance of the Margaux appellation.
2006 Mitolo Reiver Shiraz Barossa, Australia
The Barossa Valley is known internationally for classic "Aussie" Shiraz. These wines are rich and full-bodied with a characteristic soft finish. Mitolo is a partnership between Frank Mitolo and cult winemaker Ben Glaetzer. The grapes come from low yielding single vineyard in Greenock in the northern part of the Barossa average vine age is 60 years. This vibrant red wine has great concentration and spice. The palate has a wonderful velvety texture and suppleness and successfully combines power with softness. Pairs very well with richly flavoured red meats.
2007 Domaine Faiveley Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru, Burgundy, France
Clear bright ruby, fine aromas of red berry fruit lead to well-extracted cherry fruit on the palate with evidence of oak in the tannic structure, quite robust flavours in the true Corton style, just beginning to open out and with a long life in front of it.
Sweet Wine
2009 Chateau Filhot Sauternes
With south-west facing vines surrounding one of the most impressive 18th century Bordeaux Chateaux, Filhot was classified a top Second Growth in 1855 and subsequent generations of the Comte de Vaucelles family have maintained the reputation. Bright yellow-gold with floral aromas that contain white summer fruits, honey and a touch of citrus, the rich sweetness on the palate is lifted by natural acidity to give beautiful length and balance.
Port
Taylor's Twenty-Year Old Tawny Port, Douro, Portugal
Matured in oak casks known as "pipes" for a minimum of 20 years, this is a blend of six grape varieties which are indigenous to the high, heat-baked vineyards of Portugal's Upper Douro Valley. Over time the colour turns from dense purple-red through carmine to orange-tawny, the fruit retaining its rich, raisiny concentration and refining into a nutty, spicy, honeyed finish, a taste to linger over. Taylor's was established in 1692 and remains the most famous name in Port.

Planted exclusively with the Riesling grape, the wines have been described as showing "an exciting fruit and a playful elegance", which summarises the aromas of fresh pears and peaches with a ripeness and racy florality on the palate and a lingering fruit finish. 2007 was an excellent vintage and this wonderful wine is now at its peak. Recommended with white meats and spicy Asian food.
Red Wine
2004 Chateau Cos d'Estournel Saint-Estephe, France
With 65 hectares of superbly situated vineyards that adjoin those of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild in neighbouring Pauillac, Cos d'Estournel is recognised as the leading estate in Saint-Estephe. The wine is known for its intense, classic Cabernet Sauvignon fruit blended with carefully selected Merlot to provide a rich roundness on the finish. Deep black cherry red, with aromas of crushed summer berries, the succulent concentration of flavour on the palate is now beginning to open up to show the quality and length of the excellent 2004 vintage.
2007 Castello di Fonterutoli, Chianti Classico DOCG, Tuscany, Italy
Castello di Fonterutoli, owned by the Marchesi Mazzei since 1435, is one of the most impressive estates in Tuscany, situated on rolling vine-covered hills with Florence to the north and views to Siena to the south. This Chianti Classico is made from local Sangiovese grapes with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon for maximum expression from the Mazzei's very best vineyards. Deep ruby red, it has an aroma reminiscent of bitter cherries, robust yet smooth flavours on the palate and a firm finish, making it a perfect match for red meats and cheese.
2007 Joseph Drouhin Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits, France
Les Charmes is one of the renowned Grands Cru on the finest slopes outside the historic village of Gevrey-Chambertin, situated just below Le Chambertin itself. Here the Pinot Noir grape expresses the finest, most elegant of red Burgundies from low yielding old vines : a soft ruby colour leads the way to aromas of cherries with a slight musky spiciness, the fruit flavours are both rich and harmonious with a overall silky texture with a superb finish.

White Wine
2007 Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Kabinett, Reichsgraf Von Kesselstatt
The steep, rocky Goldtropfchen (meaning "little drops of gold") vineyards are at the centre of this historic estate on Germany's Mosel river that was founded in 1349.
