Part 2: Asiana (OZ) 301 - ICN-HKG in F with Pictures
This is second of several trip reports that I will post regarding my trip to BALI from Toronto . I am going to write this in installments. Each installments will represent a segment of the trip excluding the AC segment which was short and uneventful. I did include a picture of the Maple Leaf Lounge for Air Canada.
I have included pictures as well. I reference these pictures on my report... They are located here:
http://public.fotki.com/ACfly/air_tr...oz_301icn-hkg/
My Itinerary is as follows:
YYZ-LGA-JFK-ICN-HKG-DPS on AC (J), OZ (F), CX (J)
Return:
DPS-HKG-ORD-LGA-YYZ on CX (J), UA (F), AC (J)
Part 1: New York-Seoul on Asiana - First Class
Part 2t: Seoul-Hong Kong - Aisiana Airlines - First Class
Part 3: Hong Kong- Bali - Cathay Pacific - Business Class
Part 4t: BALI highlights
Part 5: Hong KONG Highlights

Review of Second Segment:
Flight: Asiana flight 301
Route: ICN- HKG
Aircraft Type: 747-400 Combo
Class: First Class
Departure: August 29, 2003 (Friday) 02:45
Arrival: August 31, 2003 (Sunday) 0900
The JFK flight arrived 3 hours late to ICN at 0915h. My flight to HKG was scheduled at 0900h and I thought I might miss my flight. That would have been really bad because the next available flight into HKG would not be until 1900hr. However, the FA informed me that the HKG flight will be waiting since there were quite a few passengers coming from this flight going to HKG. I was the only F class passenger going to HKG.
When we landed two FA's came over to my chair and took my bags and walked me to my next flight to HKG which was waiting upstairs. I was quite impressed.
I managed to get on my HKG flight.. what a relief! The only thing that I would have liked to do at ICN was check out the First Class Lounge and take a shower!! Oh well...
When I boarded OZ 301 to HK, I was greeted by name and immediately escorted to my seat. The FA informed me that I would be the only passenger in First, so I can choose any seat.... The first class section was exactly the same as my previous JFK-ICN flight with 12 seats configured 2-2. Then the in-charge flight attendant (Purser?) came to my seat and formally introduced himself to me saying how happy he was to see that I was able to make the flight.
As the sole person in F class, I was waited on by 3 FA's... what a thrill that was...One by one they came bearing more and more gifts and food.
For a three-hour flight, a six course Brunch was served.
The usual pre-departure drinks and hot towel were offered.
The Wine selection was exactly the same as the previous JFK-ICN flight so I didn't bother typing.

The food was outstanding! I had the lobster as the main entree and it was moist, meaty and well flavored. By the time I got to the Lime Cake, I was completely stuffed and had no more room for the Fruit Punch or my favorite Ginseng Tea...
After Brunch, the FA's went around the cabin and closed all of the left hand windows so that the sun would not blind me! They asked me if I wanted to sleep so they could make the bed. I told them no, I would be busy writing up my trip report. and they laughed.
Throughout the flight, they kept checking on me... but I didn’t need anything else....
RATING
BOARDING: 5/5 for the fact that the FA's escorted me from my previous flight to this flight.. So I didnt have to find my way to the gate and wait in line.
FOOD: 5/5 All you can eat...since I was the only one in F class
SERVICE: 5/5 3 to 1 ratio: FA's to passenger.. Can't get better than that
SEAT: 4/5 it was flat bed but no single seat, only 2-2 configuration
IFE: 3/5 no AVOD, screen was small, limited movies...
OVERALL: 5/5 Only if all flights were like this.... I am already starting to dread my F class flight back on UA from HKG to ORD.
The next segment: HKG-DPS on CX in J class

I used points to fly YYZ-JFK-HKG, thus, being able to get one way on OZ and one way on UA
[edited to include:]
For CX flight from HKG-DPS (Bali) in J class - paid for that one.
