DELTA AIRLINES 172
Aircraft:747-400
Seat: 77A
Business Elite
Depart: Tokyo Narita international airport(NRT)
Arrive: John F Kennedy airport NY (JFK)
Sched.departure:3:15pm Actual Departure: 4:15pm
Sched.Arrival:2:59pmActual arrival: 3:59pm
After a refreshing shower and chill time in the Delta Skyclub, boarding commenced 30 minutes late. Boarding the classic (747) through door 1L I proceeded up to the private cabin of the upper deck. I was greeted by cheerful flight attendant, Donna. I have flown the delta 747 upper deck once before on a reposition from Atlanta to JFK, so I thought about being downstairs but with two flight attendants serving 11 passengers it was definitely a private cabin.
I quickly changed into my flight attire and relaxed with a glass of champagne. Also having a bin next to the seat is one of the advantages of being on the upper deck. There is plenty of space also above for my roller board, well just! My usual drink of choice to start of with of course. We found out the delay of the departure was due to the flight crew before us did not have the required rest time so they needing more time in Taipei hence the late arriving aircraft.
Once airborne I was offered another glass of champagne and warm nuts mixed were some Japanese fare. About an hour in we were served dinner and I must say I enjoyed the presentation of the champagne bottle being poured Into the glass rather than a new glass being brought to me.
This is what I call service.

After a wonderful dinner I set up the bed for a few hours sleep this time I used two comforters on the chair to try and make it a little more comfortable. But alas it was definitely not as comfortable as laying flat on the 777. It will be a much needed and appreciated upgrade to full flat beds and better entertainment systems on the 747, A330 AND 767.
I awoke to violent tremors of the aircraft passing over Canada that lasted for about 30 mins. It was more intense that I have ever experienced over the pacific.
2 hours before landing the aroma of breakfast filled the cabin (even thought it was lunch time in NY). I normally opt for the hot breakfast eg: eggs, but this time I wanted something different.
We finally landed at JFk and taxied for a few minutes before being towed into Gate 6. I walked down the stairs and the doors were still not opened. There was a little bit of confusion with the flight attendants opening the door. 2 minutes later I was through Door 2L making my way down to immigration. As I enter the hall where both air bridges come out there was a Delta customer representative holding a big white card with my name on it. He was the JFK Diamond Medallion Meet & Greet representative to escort me through immigration and customs. He took me through to the very end where I saw the immigration officer and then I head through customs. As I was presenting my customs card, the CBP officer says to me... You must be very important VIP right? What was my answer...Indeed! lol
If you have missed my other trip reports from this Hong Kong check it out from the beginning.

Just finished all 6 installments of this report. Very well done. Thank you for sharing it with us. I was a longtime NW loyalist and am glad to see the WBC chairs on the 744 still in use. I know they're not long for this world but it was a nice little touch of nostalgia for me.
I look forward to more of your report in the future.
