My very first trip report DL J on A332/B76D/B763/B77L
BACKGROUND
Every year, in late fall, there is a group called Frontrunners who hosts a fundraiser party in Copenhagen, and I have been meaning to attend this event in the last two years, but school has always gotten in the way. Now that I have graduated from college last May, which means school will not be preventing me from attending this event. So, I did some searching on Delta’s page using the award calendar to find the dates with low award inventory, then I would do a search at Alaskaair.com to ensure it is indeed available. After about two hours of searching, I stumbled across an itinerary that would allow me to check out four out of five of Delta’s business class products. 90,000 miles and $95 later, my trip was booked!
Itinerary

A few years ago, I transitioned through LHR on Northwest and noticed a really neat hotel called Yotel in terminal 4, so I decided to give them a try and booked a night there for 63 quid or a little over $100.
I also needed a place to stay in Frankfurt the night before my return trip, so I booked a room at the Carathotel near Frankfurt for $75 and with that, my trip was set!
Topics that will be covered in this trip report:
Delta 152 LAX-ATL in the old Northwest World Business Class Cabin and LAX SkyClub
Delta 10 ATL-LHR with the Thompson Vantage Flat Bed seats and ATL Centerpoint/E SkyClubs
LHR Yotel
Scandinavian Club London Lounge and Singapore SilverKris Lounge

LAX-ATL on A332
Pre-Flight
I probably should have not had high expectations about LAX, since the airport is a logistical royal mess. Immediately upon arrival, I went to the SkyPriority check-in lane and the kiosk was able to retrieve my itinerary, however when it was time to scan my Passport, it just simply won’t read my passport… After waiting, for about 5 minutes, while the agent who was supposed to assist passengers in the kiosk area chatted away with her fellow colleague talking and texting on her phone. Finally, I got her attention and she came over promptly, and the minute she attempted to scan my Passport, the kiosk crashed....
Finally, the agent told me to wait in line for the next available agent, which I did without any objections. The check-in agent tagged my bag and handed me over my boarding passes. Now I thought everything should go smoothly at this point and on, but I forgot that I am at LAX… Upon arriving at the security checkpoint, the dragon closed off the entrance to the security checkpoint and told me to go to the downstairs checkpoint. I told her I would like to use the SkyPriority lane since I knew the downstairs checkpoint does not have a dedicated lane or an expedited lane for SkyPriority customers. She wouldn’t budge and I knew there wasn’t much I could do, but just to head downstairs… Good enough, when I arrived at the checkpoint it already had over 100 people waiting in line SkyPriority at LAX=total failure.
As we got closer to the ID checker, two passengers cut the line claiming that they needed to get to their gate ASAP to catch their flight… The TSA agent reluctantly let them cut the line as a gesture of good faith, however, I saw them sitting down and grabbing a drink in the SkyClub minutes later. Also, another woman – an uber high maintenance woman mind you – was dragging the smartcart that only had one luggage and a carryon puffing her hair at a rate of twelve times per minute [yes I counted], and she ended up cutting in right behind me as I would not have any of that baloney. Once I gathered all of my belongings, packed in my laptop, put my belt on, and slipped into my shoes I took a look back and noticed that the hair puffing lady was clogging the checkpoint and she was still loading her stuff into the bins.
Anyway, at this point, I told myself to forget my recent experience knowing that it is about to change once I reach the SkyClub!
LAX SkyClub
As we know the LAX SkyClub underwent renovations several months ago, and it has transformed into one of the nicer SkyClubs in the system. The agent greeted me into the lounge and I grabbed a cold bottle of Heineken, as well as some munchies to keep me occupied while I waited for my flight to being boarding. I did not take any pictures, however I have some pictures that I took last September....
The shower [room 2 IIRC]
While I was in the SkyClub, I saw the Airbus A330-200 land and I was ecstatic that my journey was about to begin
Los Angeles to Atlanta
Flight Information:
Airline: Delta
Aircraft: Airbus A330-200
Class: Business
Seat: 1H
Date: December 7, 2010
About five minutes before our scheduled boarding time, I headed out to the gate and I noticed that Delta chose to only use one jetway at a gate that is capable of using two jetways simultaneously… Boarding was orderly and I was one of the first few people to board the plane. The flight attendant promptly collected my coat and asked me what I would like to drink. Of course, I asked for the Woodford bourbon with Coke and within seconds, my pre-departure beverage was sitting on the middle console alongside a Dasani water bottle.
Pre-Departure Beverage
Seat Controls
BusinessElite Cabin [Front cabin]
WBC seat
Footrest in recline mode
Legroom [6ft tall here]
Footrest in sleep mode
AVOD
This seat is very wide/long and I was pleased at how comfortable this seat was when fully upright or in recline mode. The only caveat I have with this seat is that when it is in sleep mode the seat is far more steep than I had expected. This seat is great for a nap, but any more than that this seat is not comfortable enough for me. When seated in 1H, getting across the passenger next to you is not really an issue here, but I can see how this can be an issue in the non-bulkhead rows when the seat in front of you is fully reclined.
Once we were airborne, the FA asked whether I wanted salad or pizza, I immediately replied salad, knowing that pizzas on the plane are often edible or mediocre at best. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made on a domestic flight. My salad was steak with potatoes covered in some kind of sauce [ranch?] that was delicious. The person next to me had pizza and he was apparently vastly disappointed after realizing what his pizza looked like compared to my salad…. Sorry pal…
After my meal, we still had about two and half hours to Atlanta, so I set my bed into sleep mode or in full recline and slept for about an hour. After my nap, I played some Bejeweled and had more drinks... In no time, our plane began its descend and we passed Hartsfield on our base leg before turning on finals.
This flight was decent for a domestic flight, and I would fall in love with Delta if they began flying international configured birds on long flights on a regular basis between hubs - i.e. LAX-DTW, ATL-LAX, ATL-SFO, etc…
Overall, this was a pleasant flight, but I knew this is going to be nowhere near the service and experience I am about to experience on my next flight.

Looking forward to more! ^
To be honest, I sorta do miss those seats. Maybe it's do to the sentimentalism behind them than with the seat itself as my first ever trip in business class was with these seats. Good times...

Nice Report
I recently flew ATL-LAX on an A330-200 in seat 4A; I had an adult PDB, and, once the wheels were off the ground, I put the seat into sleep position and managed to sleep just about all the way to southern California. Really comfortable seat; great flight.

ATL SkyClubs and ATL-LHR on 76D
Atlanta SkyClubs
I have been to all SkyClubs in ATL, except for one, so immediately after I deplaned, I hopped on the train and headed out to the A-Centerpoint Skyclub. The club was EMPTY with only a few patrons occupying the entire lounge, which created for a peaceful environment. After draining a drink or two, I decided to head out to the former BizElite lounge in concourse E to grab a shower before my flight.
When I arrived at the E SkyClub, it was noticeably busier, but not cramped in any way. I informed the agent that I would like to use one of their shower rooms, and after giving my BP I was promptly escorted to an available shower room. It was not my first time taking a shower in this lounge, but I have one big issue with this shower room, and that is the soap dispenser. It takes a lot of effort to press the black thing on the bottom to get a couple drops of soap, so DL PLEASE buy a new dispenser!!!
Other than that, the Skyclubs were decent, but nothing fancy.
I had another drink and with that, it was time to head out to the gate to board my LHR flight!!!

Boarding did not start at the stated time on the BP and we ended up waiting about 15 minutes at the gate... No biggie.
J was full on my flight [only 2-3 non-revs], but economy was wide open and the load in economy was probably around 20-30%. The cabin looked really nice and my on seat was the usual headphones, duvet blanket, pillow, and amenity kit... There was a Dasani bottle on the console as well. The AVOD was perfectly placed and the size of the screen was just right, also DL's AVOD is pretty decent.
About ten minutes after settling into my seat, an FA came by with a tray full of champagne and orange juice. Of course, I went with the champagne and I wound up drinking three glasses The champagne was Piper-Heidsieck Brut and it was decent, at least better than AS's cheap Korbel champagne.
The menu was distributed during the Champagne service, so here is a text version of the menu.
FIRST COURSE
A TASTING OF TWO APPETIZERS
Shrimp with lemon grass and marinated hearts of palm and roasted beets with blue cheese

^ Thanks for sharing - was wondering you'd post your next segment.
How was your quality of rest on the trans-Atlantic flight, given the shortness of it and the seat? (I've only flown the on the 77L.)

ATL-LHR Dinner
Dinnertime!!!
The minute we crossed 10,000 all six attendants serving the J cabin swarmed the front galley preparing for dinner service. There was two FAs taking our dinner orders, one in one aisle and another in the other aisle. Since I am not a big fish fan, I ordered the Filet of Beef dish for dinner and cheese for dessert and FYI you can have both desserts if you want, but that is too much for me!
Immediately after we ordered our meal, they served us warm nuts, and another FA came by with four different wines [2 whites and 2 reds] and I picked the Diablo red wine... The nice touch was that the FA did not pour in a full glass, instead she only poured in enough for two sips so we could taste the wine before so we can decide if that is the one we want to drink ^ That was a really nice touch.
The Diablo was really good and it goes well with the steak.
The salad is very similar - both quality and quantity - as we normally see in domestic F, the Tomato and Basil soup was delicious, and the shrimp with lemon grass was full of flavor. All in all, a great starter. I don't like beets, so I skipped that portion and ironically it was the least appetizing part of the meal.
Sorry about the appetizer pictures, they are not that great... I had a little too much to drink and eventually realized that I needed some light to take pictures
The wine lady walked by filling everybody's glasses a few times during the appetizer, so there wasn't an empty glass in sight. The attendants did not bother me until it was obvious that I am done with my appetizer before taking the plates away, and within a few minutes my delicious entrée was sitting in front of me...
The sides [sweet potato wedges and zucchini] was good, but I wanted to save some room in my tummy for dessert.
I had the cheese plate, and was happy with the cheese and I ordered the Jurancon Prestige wine which has to be the best wine on the menu!!! It was smooth, full of flavor, and most importantly very delicious... Perfect for cheeses.
I was probably the last person to complete my meal.... Yes, I am a slow eater, and that is because I like to savor in every bite!
With that, the cabin lights dimmed and it was bedtime!

The meal service ended just outside of NYC, so on this flight you can easily get a solid 5-6 hours of sleep, unlike the much shorter JFK/DTW flights. The FAs were verrrry efficient during meal service and they had six dedicated FAs in our cabin for the meal service. I got my nuts and wine when we were over South Carolina and I was in row 5 ^
You can see in the last picture of the dinner post, the moving map shows that we were just over Boston, and that picture was taken about 15-20 minutes after dinner. I was still eating my grapes
I fell asleep, but an hour later we hit some really bad turbulence, which woke me up, and I couldn't go back to sleep, however most of the cabin still managed to stay asleep
IMO, I prefer the 76D beds over the 77L, because it is longer and more comfortable... When the bed is flat on the 77L in the middle section was rock hard and made it a little more difficult for me to sleep comfortably. More on that later in the TR
