Sofitel's in MEL?

Sofitel's in MEL?
Anyone tried both the Sofitels in MEL? I stayed at the main Sofitel years ago and thought it was great. Any recent updates? What is the Grand like?

Have stayed at both, I find the service in each rather similar, although it could depend on each stay. I feel it depends on what you are looking at in the hotels. The Grand is in an old restored building and is apartment style. It does have an indoor pool, whereas the Sofitel does not.
On the other hand it does not have the views.
Suggest you may wish to compare facilities on the Accor website.
Also they are the opposite ends of town from each other.
The Sofitel is at the Paris end, which I prefer for atmosphere and dining, whereas the Grand is at the western end, near the Casino.

Hi Stimpy, the Grand is in the old Victorian Railways Head Office building in Spencer Street, near the station, now called Southern Cross station.
Personally I don't like the streetscape there, so in my opinion not as nice as the Paris End or the location of the old Sheraton Southbank.
