Where do KrispyKreme stand-alones still exist? I'm not asking for minute detail, but they totally pulled up stakes in this region, and it was a big news story that interpreted the move as heading for bankruptcy. Then they continued to be available in grocery stores (no follow-up news stories about that). So, are they still pretty active in certain regions of the US?
Editorial comment: While I liked them a lot, it seemed to me, and the newspaper credited this, in part, for their initial rocket expansion, that they're basically 2/3 to 3/4 the size of most doughnut shop doughnuts, so they got/get to sell significantly more doughnuts out of the same batch of stuff.
