I stayed there in Jan 2006. Hotel is ok, though extremely expensive. Rooms are brand new, though small, with LCD TV (rarity in Eastern Europe hotels). The best thing of this hotel is its location: in the center city, yet on a not very noisy street, close to many embassies.
The price is too high: I paid 200 EUR (corporate rate), incl. taxes. Though, the other option will be only Premier Palace in Kyiv and this one is even more expensive.

I stay at this hotel regularly and I'm not very impressed. The hotel is pretty old already, almost no benefits for Gold Club Carlson members - no upgrades ever, only plate pf fruits after some e-mails to their manager.
Standard rooms are small, but some Business Class rooms are extremely large - just ask for a larger room.

The hotel is a nice, city hotel, on the smaller side, basic, not a resort or large convention hotel. Rooms are average size, but modern, comfortable. My bed was a bit uncomfortable, not a pillow top or number bed.
Staff is not too aware of Gold benefits, so when I asked them they eventually figured it out and sent a fruit plate.
The location is good, staff is fluent in English. This is a business hotel, but for my purpose as a tourist, it was more than fine.
I posted some photos on tripadvisor.

Was in Kiev 3 weeks ago.
Room was OK. WIFI is free.
Breakfast is very expensive, but in-room-breakfast is much cheaper. Selection is smaller too though.
Dinner at the hotel restaurant "Mille miglia" was excellent.
Made a little walk over the Maidan in the early morning (barricades and people still camping there) before heading to Chernobyl.
Everything was quite in Kiev. But strange feeling to be on the Maidan, remembering what happened there a few weeks ago...
