Expert flyer bizarre results

Hello have just looked up expert flyer for Thursday QR6 from LHR. Expert flyer has blocked not only row 1 but also seats 3A and 2K. Why is this when the flight still has four free seats to assign. Many thanks for your help.

CharlotteC the so called blocked seats are actually under airline control and not available for 'ordinary' passengers to choose.
There can be many different reasons for this. They could be for use by the bassinet users in row 1. They could be reserved for VIPs or ...? I am sure you can think of many other reasons!

I thought as much but thank you, I will hopefully be ensconced in row 2 but just wanted to check how busy the flight will be! Hopefully they won't move my seat!

so QR is not interested in overbooking J when the F cabin is mostly empty,

All the seat in J are either taken or blocked beside 1, is QR so procreative with their F cabin that their are not ready to Op-Up J passenger?

I don't understand "not interested in overbooking J". The EF results you quoted show J3: That means 3 seats available for sale in J.

Just because particular seats are blocked on the seating chart doesn't necessarily mean anything. They could become unblocked later, or it could be they're planning to "roll" some people to F but haven't done it yet.

J3 means they are willing to sell 3 seats at the J price, that's all.

with "F7", most airlines would show at least "J7" in this case instead of "J3"

Unless my understanding of how EF operates is fundamentally incorrect surely EF hasn't blocked anything - they are merely reflecting information provided to them by the airline.

I'm pretty new to using EF, but my understanding is same as you.

Viewing seat map via MMB will only tell you vacant or occupied but EF will tell you which are vacant, occupied or blocked. I suppose some blocked seats might open up for selection at OLCI or physical check in at airport.

Have been using EF to keep an eye on my QR flights in April and have noticed one flight seems to change on a daily basis.

DOH-NRT

Until last week, J was 9 and C7, then went J0, C0 (With all J seats occupied) with economy wide open.

Monday this week, went back to J9, C7 but by Tuesday had reverted to the above.

Has anyone else noticed these sort of changes?

Interesting now Economy is looking quite full too.

My CDG-DOH-KUL flight next week went to all 0 yesterday, when a few days back it had still plenty of seats available in Economy and a few in Business Class.

florens it would appear that someone else flying CDG-DOH-KUL cancelled their reservation. The J cabin was otherwise sold out.

One of the problems with these websites is that they are only as accurate as the airline allows. For example the seat map may show several empty seats but does not show how many have reservations but have not allocated seats. These do not show on seat maps until the cabin is almost full when seats are allocated to all passengers. I do not know but maybe the same applies to the seat availability as shown in your post. Perhaps someone could tell us what actually happens in that situation.

I agree it would be interesting to know what happens exactly. Now we are at 3 days before departure and the results are the following:

QR 40 CDG 3:15p → DOH 11:35p
F0 P0 A0 J3 C2 D1 I0 R0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 T0 O0 W0

QR 848 DOH 2:35a → KUL 3:15p
J3 C2 D1 I0 R0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 T0 O0 W0

It might be that QR tries to oversell by opening up availability (they might expect last minute cancellations or so, however this might cause problems as F seems full too, so this would lead to downgrades rather than OpUps) or that indeed some reservations were cancelled. It seems odd that availability in J was zeroed out first, indicating a full cabin, and now opening up again. It's also interesting that both flights have the exact same bucket availability. In any case, I'll report back on the actual load.

As has been said before, QR and EF aren't exactly best of compatible friends.

Personally, I don't rely on EF when it comes to QR.

The QR data on ExpertFlyer comes directly from the airline reservation systems, same as any travel agent would see.

With regard to the Flight Availability results, there are 12 different Points of Sale to choose from that may return different fare class code values, so make sure the correct one is chosen.

With regards to the Seat Maps, those too are direct from the airline host system, however if you think there is a discrepancy please email us the exact flight in question to us so we can take a look.
