Is it Qatar policy not to inform passengers of a change or was it simply a breakdown in communications.
Time changes are normally advised of by email, but perhaps the email ended up in your Spam/Junk folder.

How was Check-In on this occasion? I noted your follow-up letter in BT, and also that QR advised you little that we had not.

Best,

This happens all the time. I have upcoming flights book NBO DOH CDG DOH NBO, NBO DOH BKK KSM BKK DOH NBO, NBO DOH BKK DOH NBO and NBO DOH LHR DOH NBO and all bookings have had some changes, with no email from QR. I add all my bookings into myflightsapp.com, and they send me email notifications.

I did not get an email BUT if it went into my spam folder then it could have automatically been junked as I did not check email for a month whilst I was staying in a village in Cambodia

Check in was not a problem this time - first class was roped off but as I arrived early there was no queue anyway!

Qatar met me off the planes in Doha (both legs) and Bangkok and gave me a personal guide through the airports which was nice

Glad all went well.

An F escort is normal at DOH, and QR offer me one at CDG due to my regularity. However, a buggy ride at BKK is always useful, as it saves the lengthy walk!

Flight Cancellations during Summer 2016

A number of routes will lose 1-2 flights a week during the summer due to the delivery delays of the A350/A320neo, this is to accommodate planned expansion such as the ATL route launch which are too close to postpone. This will be put in the schedule over the next few days. Other planned route launches which are occurring later in the year might be rescheduled to latter dates.

QR only have 2 787 left on order, they will delivered in May and June of this year. The final 77W will come in later this year. The remaining expansion all counts on the A350/A320NEO (either to launch the new flights or to free up other aircraft) and the delivery of these aircraft won't be steady for a while.

I recommend FT'ers check their bookings and lookout for any notifications from QR or your TA if you are flying over the summer.

I had a QR833 flight last Friday, got an email 21st Jan advising flight change to 21.45h
When checking flights via Manage my Bookings I had to confirm.
I get warnings from myflightsapp which are more trustworthy than QR mails....

For those looking for an easy alert system, I'd strongly recommend MyFlightsApp.

There is an App for iPhone users, and a Desktop Website for those using Android/Windows etc.

I use the latter, and it's brilliant - plus the owner is an FTer.

Didn't realise this - it is a great tool.

I've had changes made to my booking that the airline didn't tell me about but MyFlights emailed me about. So is even a bit of a failsafe for if the airline/TA drops the ball.

Frequency Changes to US Flights

I am not sure if this is directly related to the issue above (or, perhaps, taking into account an anticipated reduction in traffic), but the following frequency changes have been published:

http://airlineroute.net/2016/05/03/qr-us-jun16/

"QATAR Airways in latest schedule update is adjusting a number of US operations as a result of aircraft assignment, between June and August 2016 (Boston until September). Affected routes include the following:

Doha – Boston 06JUL16 – 28SEP16 Reduce from 7 to 6 weekly, Wednesdays service cancelled. A350-900XWB operation

Doha – Houston 05JUN16 – 28AUG16 Reduce from 7 to 6 weekly, Sundays service cancelled. Note the 777-300ER operates on selected dates in June, instead of -200LR

Doha – Miami 01JUN16 – 30AUG16 Reduce from 7 to 6 weekly, Fridays service cancelled. 777-200LR operates on selected dates, instead of -300ER

Doha – Philadelphia 01AUG16 – 29AUG16 Reduce from 7 to 5 weekly, Mondays and Thursdays service cancelled. A350-900XWB operation

Further changes remain highly possible.

It is due to the aircraft shortages, summer is peak season for the US flights. Expect a few more temporary frequency changes elsewhere over the same period. This is reminiscent of the 787 grounding and QR's selective frequency drops.

I wonder if any of the US airlines will try and capitalise by running summer flights to Doha.

Just a quick glance on the schedules shows BHX, ARN, CPH, HKT, CGK affected with a cut of mostly 1 flight a week each with August being the most affected month. I'm sure there are more as these + the US cuts only account for about 2 aircraft.

Interesting that BHX is being cut already - it only launched this year!

The timing is odd, as the UK/Sweden/Denmark will all be on 'summer holiday mode' so quite a few people looking at heading overseas.

Cutting HKT is understandable due to the climate, and likewise CGK. That being said, QR must be praying for additional aircraft!

Hi all, this is my first post on FT but I have followed the discussions here for quite a long time.
QR is certainly making some interesting aircraft adjustments, I also noticed that they will deploy the A380 to Guangzhou:

http://airlineroute.net/2016/05/04/qr-cansyd-s16/

I didn't see that coming... Is Guangzhou such a high-capacity market for them?

It is a shame to see BKK losing an A380 rotation...
