First name changed on ticket
I am traveling to India via Qatar Airway and booked my ticket through travel agent. While booking travel ticket he added my parent name in my first name whereas my passport given name does not have parent name except that passport etc details are correct. I checked with Qatar customer care and they said I have to cancel ticket and re-book. Why cant airline update first name on travelers request when passport etc are correct? so the same is there in the connected flight from American airline to chicago from Grand rapids as well.. Please let me know if anybody has similar experience and what they did to avert any last moment surprises.

Might be a bit risky, but you could try just flying anyway. I've flown plenty of times using my third first name (i.e. my name is middle middle first surname, Ive flown as firstname surname) without putting the first two onto the ticket with no problem.
