QR next A380 destination - JFK

The next QR A380 destination is:

JFK

http://dohanews.co/qatar-shifts-oper...hamad-airport/

This will be third A380 destinations. QR still planned the A380 to LHR & CDG.

Unfortunately that will not being happening at JFK due to the fact that Terminal 8 is not A380 ready. Unless QR is willing to fork over the cash to make Terminal 8 A380 ready.

I actually said the same thing. Or they plan to move ops to T4 or T1 which is highly unlikely as well.

Awesome!!!!!!! From reading this news article earlier this year, http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-0...nk-routes.html al-Baker felt A380 is more suited for mid-haul flights like LHR & CDG than longhaul flights like JFK.

I have a feeling QR will start this route after it receives its 4th and 5th A380 next year. Does anyone know what QR has planned for the 3rd A380 due to arrive in June with the 2 other A380s? I'm presuming the first A380 is DOH-LHR and the second A380 is DOH-CDG.

Didn't they already announces SYD for next A380 service?

The only way Terminal 8 in JFK will be A380 ready is if BA or QF decide to bring their 380 when BA's lease is up at Terminal 7. But we will have to see what BA will do once they move into terminal 8 at the end of next year.

Unlikely imo. BA is more interested in keeping an hourly shuttle service with AA than consolidating flights.

It's also quite a short flight so not too bad efficiency wise. BA has sent all their A380s to very long haul destinations so far.

Personally I think the QR A380 will be fine at Terminal 8 from just 1 jetbridge. I've flown both SQ A380 and EK A380 at JFK terminal 4 when the upper jetbridge was not working and they just boarded everyone from the lower deck. No hiccups. Boarding took a little bit longer but all was fine.

Who knows? QR may move to Terminal 4.

The chances of QR moving back to terminal 4 is slim to none.
Considering they just joined oneworld, remaining in terminal 8 would make alot more sense. If anything, QR would probably get a second flight into jfk with either a 77W or the new a350.

Hoping to potentially fly JFK-DOH on the 388 in F in March next year and wondering how it's looking ?

Cheers

More than likely a second 77W or A350 will be around than a A380 at JFK.

Before the love affair with American and One World, back when Qatar was thought to join the Star Alliance, they did operate out of a different terminal at JFK. I was one of the first pax boarded Qatar from the AA terminal, back then that started. 3 years ago? Before that it was out of a different terminal. I remember this caused quite a commotion because AA union employees were not allowed to handle QR's plane.

So QR moving out of Terminal 8 is very likely.

In those early days, they allowed QR business class pax to use the Flagship lounge, I wonder if that is still the case

The only way QR will move out of terminal 8 is they left oneworld all together. And I do not realistically forsee QR leaving oneworld anytime soon. The overall objective of terminal 8 is to consolidate all the oneworld carriers under one roof. Which is why BA, CX, and QF will be moving into terminal 8 once BA's lease expires next year on terminal 7. JAL is the only oneworld carrier that may have a toughtime leaving terminal 1 since they have a stake in the building.
