QANTASLINK ANNOUNCES CAPACITY INCREASE IN QUEENSLAND

7 May 2008, BRISBANE: QantasLink today announced that it had signed an agreement with Alliance Airlines to operate a 100-seat Fokker 100 aircraft on the Brisbane-Mackay route from 23 June 2008.

Qantas Group General Manager Regional Airlines, Mr Narendra Kumar, said the agreement would enable the Qantas Group to increase capacity on the key mining and tourism route and reinstate some services that were temporarily suspended due to pilot attrition recently experienced by QantasLink.

"The arrangement will result in an extra 584 seats per week on the Brisbane-Mackay route, increasing the Qantas Group capacity on the route to more than 10,000 seats per week," he said.

Mr Kumar also said QantasLink would reinstate a service and upgrade key services from 23 June 2008, as follows:

· the 8:55am Brisbane-Mackay service and the 11:00am Mackay-Brisbane service would be reinstated; and

· the overnight service leaving Brisbane at 6.35pm and departing the following morning from Mackay at 6.45am would be upgraded from the 72-seat Q400 to the 100-seat Fokker 100 aircraft.

Mr Kumar said that under the terms of the agreement with Alliance Airlines, the Fokker 100 aircraft would be operated by the Queensland-based company's crew and serviced by their engineers, but operate as a QantasLink service.
Rumours circulating recently suggested a further strengthening of the QQ/QF partnership - seems that these rumours were true.

These new F100 services will be a welcome addition (esp after QantasLink had to cancel a number of nonstop Q400 services). It will be nice to fly nonstop on a jet aircraft (marketed as QantasLink) while earning FF points etc.

So we have QantasLink broken down into the following:

QantasLink - Sunstate Airlines
QantasLink - Eastern Australia Airlines
QantasLink - National Jet/Airlink
QantasLink - Alliance Airlines

Here's to flying on the Fokker 100 ^

Cheers

This is in addition to one daily (except Saturday) Perth-Port Hedland flight which is operated by Alliance, also using the F100.
