yes do seem to get the short straw in terms of competitions and sales

to be fair the regular prices in NZ are lower than the regular prices in Oz, and there are some good prices to places in Oz that Air NZ flies direct but QF doesnt (unfortunately same doesnt apply to asia or LHR)

Hmmmm... with the 'sale' MEL-AKL is AUD266 (say in March), "normal" return (using QF NZ) is NZD286, almost the same. "Normal" MEL-AKL fare (on QF OZ) is AUD315

The prices quoted on www.qantas.co.nz exclude taxes whereas on www.qantas.com.au include taxes

WIN a Qantas world trip around the Commonwealth

http://www.qantas.com.au/info/m2006?lk=prau

"Book Qantas* during December 2005 or January 2006 and register for your chance to win an amazing world trip for 2 visiting six countries competing at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. There's also a second prize of a trip to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games to be won."

Interestingly this promotion seems to be about both booking and flying Qantas during December and January.

Good Luck everyone! (After a RTW in enconomy, you might need it if you win!)

And to our international friends, Qantas has ignored you again. "entry is open only to Australian residents".

Very nice offer if you are booking a big trip from the UK, shame it does not include airfares though !

£100 Holiday Credit Offer

Right now Qantas Holidays is offering you a £100* credit to use towards your Australian holiday arrangements, when you spend a minimum of £800 per booking (excluding airfares) and travel before 30 June 2006.

Take this opportunity to visit the icons of Australia including the infamous Sydney Opera House, the aboriginal history of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) or the tranquil waters of the Great Barrier Reef.

Qantas and British Airways offer a range of special offer fares to add on to your land arrangements which can be booked through your Qantas Holidays Reservation Agent.

Simply mention this advertisement when booking with us by 31 December 2005.

To book call Qantas Holidays on 020 8222 9125 or e-mail [email protected]

"Infamous"? Since when was the Opera House "infamous"? Methinks that someone could do with consulting a dictionary before they get shot by head office.

Are we certain that we need to book during this period and not simply fly itineraries booked prior to December? Seems quite unfair

I would suggest you talk to Qantas about the requirements for the competition.

However, from my reading of the T&C it is quite clear. I have bolded certain parts of it:

"6. To enter, Eligible Entrants must:
(a) During the period from 12.01am (Sydney time) on 1 December 2005 to 11.59pm (Sydney time) on 31 January 2006, book a Qantas or a QantasLink operated flight ('Eligible Qantas Flight'), excluding any codeshare services (ie. where a 'QF' flight number appears on the ticket, but the flight is operated by another carrier), Jetstar Airways services, Australian Airlines services, partner airline services or oneworld airline services; and
(b) After they have booked their Eligible Qantas Flight, register their entry details (name, daytime telephone contact, address, Eligible Qantas Flight number, date of travel and e-mail address) before 11.59pm (Sydney time) on 2 February 2006 by:
"

Qantas Airways Offers the Gift of Travel to Australia from Just $898

http://home.businesswire.com/portal/...45&newsLang=en

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 2005--It's not too late to give the gift of travel for the holidays. There are only seven shopping days left to take advantage of a limited time fare sale on award winning Qantas Airways to Australia starting at just $898 roundtrip from Los Angeles and $1,353 from New York's JFK. For family or friends, or pure self-indulgence, travel is one of the most sought after gifts this season. This exclusive offer must be purchased by December 20, 2005, and is valid for travel between December 20, 2005 and January 1, 2006.

"With this special low fare, Qantas Airways makes the gift of air travel more accessible and affordable during the holidays," said Howard Goldberg, Qantas Airways vice president sales and marketing, The Americas. "Due to the growing demand for travel to Australia, Qantas increased its regular flight schedule and now also offers extra flights from Los Angeles to Sydney on Tuesdays during and after the holidays, providing passengers even more flexibility and choice on their itineraries," he added.

Tickets must be issued within 72 hours of confirmation of reservation, but not later than December 20, 2005. Travel must include a minimum stay of five days, fares are subject to change without notice, may not be available on all services and other restrictions apply...

For reservations or more details, contact Qantas Airways at (800) 227-4691 or a travel agent.

And a rather useful link for all cross-OW FF offers, on all the carriers (had no idea it existed myself, just found it, sorry if it is not news to many) :-

OW FF Promotions - Special offers with oneworld airlines' Frequent Flyer programs

(And you will no doubt all notice that it is not only QF that is 'geographically challenged' in its promos... ALL these promos only apply to a person in a specific country/2 or 3 countries only !)

I'm sorry but these "Massive Sales" QF are spamming us with represent very poor value for money and should not be classed a sale at all. Infact it's very misleading and devalues the use of the word "SALE" that once upon a time meant a significant saving and didn't happen once every fortnight.

That is of course, if you can actually find a flight for that advertised price.
